QB Change? Now's the Time.

Despite Kolby's struggles last night, he has genuinely improved. He was also given every chance as a starting QB and had this coaching staff been his tutor instead of Christiansen- he may have become a very good college QB. He has unquestionable toughness and has made some great throws, but none of that is going to translate into any success next year.

Isn't it time to bring on the next potential starting QB?

You mean the guy who is redshirting and sitting out due to transfer rules? Just stop. Let Colby finish out. He's earned that much at least.

Why? He has apparently stepped up to where the coaches think he's the best option. And until we lose our seventh game we are still fighting for a Bowl game!
If we were down right terrible right now and had no chance at anything then yes, by all means, try somebody else. That's just not the case though.

The next two games will be tough as is....starting a new QB would almost guarantee two losses.

Lord, no.

(Or, another way to ask the question: should the team at this point just bench every starting senior? And the answer is the same.)

You build a team by showing every player what awaits them: the staff's loyalty and playing time to those who work hard, try to improve at every practice and in every game, who lead by example and effort in the weight room, the classroom, the community, the film sessions, the practices, and the games.

That's what builds the future.

IMO, he had progressed a bit over the season. We all knew he had some accuracy issues and he telegraphs pretty consistently. At this point, I think you sick with him.

The guy's loyalty and determination are beyond question. He just hasn't developed some of them tools that I'd like to see.

I guess I let my hopes get up there a bit early in the season. I had some unrealistic expectations.

I do like where we are headed.

Colby has driven me nuts a lot during this season, but I truly think he has improved. He has shown toughness. The wide open missed TE vs SJSU will be burned into my brain forever. One of the picks last night was not a great throw. The other was a great defensive play by the USU D line.

I think Coffman will be the front runner headed into next season. He has game experience.

I firmly believe that CK has earned the right to finish the season as starting QB. He's the one who has taken a shit load of hits from day one and kept on going. He may not have the biggest set of skills on the field, but that sucker has one of the biggest hearts. Let him play it out, and then let the young ones fight it out in spring ball.

Agreed

Our best option other than Kirk is Coffman, who is redshirting. He will be the starter next season as a one and done. Tommy will still be #2 next yr. Young should never have been given a scholly...but he tugged on the nerves of a coach who just had his top two QB options leave. The RS freshmen this year will probably still ride pine and run the scout teams unless they really step up.

Going to be hard to make a change at QB when we really have no idea what's behind. At this point we can still make it into a bowl game, as far fetched as that might be, we are still in contention to get there. Plus, the next starting QB is redshirting right now (any one of the two or three).

No way would i make a Qb switch with two games left (possibly 3). After seeing what New Mexico did to Boise I'm thinking our offense can put up points on them especially if Wick is back. It could be a barn burner like the NM game, but if we can control the tempo and play defense like AF did against Boise we could get a win.

The only person it would benefit Is Thornton. Frankly, if Thornton is our #1 next year, we'll be in trouble. I think he'd be serviceable but like to see someone play better

I'm pretty sure that no matter what was available this year Bohl knows it's early rebuilding and I think Bohl respects the players that didn't transfer it seems as he feels they deserve that field time. While I personally would like to have seen both Colby & Sam get game time if a QB change was going to be made it needed to be made 4 weeks ago.

Bohl took a QB for the year and I don't think he ever had any intention of making a change I just hope someone steps up next year. Don't care who it is as long as they give us 3 quarters minimum every game. However it's going to be a long off season so far only one game worth replaying :(

Brian Hill will go nuts on the Lobo defense.

I agree he should have a solid day if Colby can open that run game with some accuracy. We were so successful against Fresno because Colby had a solid passing game. Nothing amazing just solid all game long made the defense respect the receivers and his arm and Hill did the rest.

I watched some of the K-State TCU game, and they talked about a sign over the practice facility that says, "Those who stay, will Play". You've got to reward the 4th or 5th year players who put in their time in the weight room and on the scout team, when they stick around.

You play the best player that gives you a chance to win. Obviously leading...hard work etc makes a better team/player....but no just no....no to "they put their time in" hs bs.

*I personally think he should stay in....doesn't make sense to change now.
