PUNT?!?!?!?!

I have to say I agree that bitching about the punt is wayyy overblown. I don't necessarily agree with the punting call, but it's hardly worth this much bitching.

We have a lot bigger issues to bitch about that actually lost us this game, like a swiss cheese defense, kick coverage and abysmal showing from fans.
My take as well. It was a punt on 4th and long and we were lucky to be moving the ball right then. Going for it on 4th down would not have accomplished much of anything except giving TCU better field position.

We need to do something on defense. The "bend but don't break" system keeps getting shattered by the run. That can be helped with some more size on the D-line at least.

For kickoffs, Dawson is one of the fastest players in the nation, and it showed.

People bitched about Joe Tiller much in the same way. Can't say that I agree with punting there, but that isn't what lost game.

You all bitch when we punt...but you all also bitch when we go for it! The punt didn't lose us the game...going for it wouldn't have either. We played a nice close game that we could have possibly won, but in the end lost a game that we were supposed to lose...by a better margin than we all thought possible a few weeks ago.

You can't say that.... that is part of the bitch, now we will never know if we could have got the ball to someone like herron who could bust it. Then still have 3 timeouts or convert an onside. Now we will never know. If you are convinced we were going to lose why not try the first down? I swear it is like he was happy to beat the spread. Coach gave up and that suck cause the boys fought hard. So who cares if we go for it on 4th and don't convert what's the harm in trying?

Honestly, the way the game was going we were WAY more likely to cause a fumble and recover the ball in their territory than getting a first down with our backup QB making a play.

Not only that, but besides the 62 yard run by Smith, Wyoming didn't break anything all day. TCU is so fast, against any other team Wyoming plays except maybe BSU and Nebraska, Smith breaks that for a TD.

In this UNLV BSU game I say Smith can break a 60+ yarder on BSU they don't look near as fast as TCU and Unlv has already broken pays on them. In fact UNLV is playing stronger against BSU than they did against Wyo.

If UNLV could cut down on the penalties, they would be doing a lot better.

given we had 5 takeaways form TCU perhaps we had a better chance of getting one of those instead of a First down? I would have gone for it too but was a no win situation

Who cares, we only had maybe 500 fans there to see it.
imho, that was more the fault of the administration than the actual weather....all week we heard horror stories of how bad the weather would be but when it cae down to it i had a beautiful drive to and from the game

between the "discounted ticks" and shutting down TGP and the cowboy walk a day freaking early i'm sure that made enough folks just decide the trip wouldn't be worth it

It's the fault of the Wyoming fan base. You think that if we had this same weather with the same reports the week of the Nebraska game that would have kept Nebraska fans from driving across the state to support their team? Pathetic showing from our fans.

It was <30 yesterday, snow flurries, and a tiny bit of wind yesterday here... still had 24K.

This is not rocket science to me. Down 11 with two minutes to go and all three timeouts. There is a zero percent chance we win if we punt on fourth down. There is a non-zero percent chance we win if we go for it. Punting was a face-saving gesture and was not a strategically defensible decision in terms of coaching to win. Therefore, the coaches clearly cared more about losing by fewer points than they did about winning. Just a horrible message to send to your players and fans. I don't know how you can go in the locker room and look your team in the eye after that.

I think the fact that Captain K was in the game had more to do with punting than not wanting to win the game.
