Pumphrey's a monster

I'm sorry I'm sounding soooo negative but if we don't shore up this lack of D from a not very good UNLV team, Pumphrey went for 474 against Nevada a school record. I don't want to see Pumphrey running all day rampant, I hope everybody decides to show up, but we need a total refocus and total team effort, and oh yeah Brian Hill go for 250 as well. Come on Pokes don't disappoint me/us anymore, shore it up, do your assignments and win a BIG game in Laramie!!!! Still very disappointed!

Yeah. Usually I can shake a loss after a couple days, but this one's is still eating me.

I know it would have been risky, and hindsight is always 20/20, but I wish we would have gone for 2 at the end of regulation. Our defense didn't stand a chance in OT because they hadn't stopped them all game. I think a 50/50 ball to gentry would have been a better chance of winning than kicking the PAT and taking our chances in OT. or 3OT.... thoughts?

The players have been quoted as saying they read to many press clippings and the coaches didn't prepare them good enough to win. Kind of like EMU last year when they thought they could just show up and get a W. Josh Allen, for example, had less than a 50% completion percentage just one week after winning the Manning QB of the Week award. That kind of speaks to the lack of focus at UNLV.

Pumphrey is a good running back, but so it McNicols from Boise. SDSU has a veteren line (4 seniors and a junior), which is helping his cause. But, aside from last week, this team plays better vs teams who aren't focused on the read option and have less mobile QB's. Plus, Pumphrey I think has pissed Brian Hill off. And, I bet the entire teams is pissed about how they played and will be more focused and ready to go.

Wyoming is undefeated at home and has a top 25 win under their belt. SDSU, while a very good ball team, has yet to face a team with a winning record. Last time SDSU was ranked, they lost by 18 to a 9th place Sun Belt team.

Play focused, make solid tackles, and substain drives are the key to victory. The D needs to make stops...something they didn't do vs. Las Vegas.

Go Pokes!!

They way our D played....we probably should have gone for the win. And, calling a 2nd time out, after their kicker missed, was another bad call. Hindsight 20/20 kind of stuff.

This is exactly right. I was surprised - even shocked - that the Pokes didn't have a two point play in the works. So I blame the coaching staff for the loss.

I don't think they called a timeout when the kicker missed I'm pretty sure it was a false start. It was just dumb luck on their part one of the few times a penalty helps your cause.

I'm pretty sure higher powers wanted us to lose the game.

Our guys didn't play their game in Vegas and showed their youth. The fact of the matter is they are still in control of their own destiny. It is on to SDSU and preparing for another big home game. Thankfully this game is at the WAR.

Pumphrey is absolutely a monster, he is in my opinion a head above Ronnie Hillman. The Cowboys have their hands full, but don't count them out.

Pumphrey is a talent, no doubt. He is an arrogant prick trash-talking bastard as well.

I was told that after we pissed our pants on D last weekend, Pumphrey made a comment somewhere about SDSU having 500 yards rushing between him and Penny this Saturday.

Pumphrey is a great running back, no doubt. But his stats have been inflated by playing teams that are pretty bad vs. the run. Comparing Pumphrey and Hill's stats against common opponents this season, Pumphrey has the slight edge with 6.7 YPC to Hill's 6.1 YPC.

The run defense ranking of the non-common teams SDS has played are 93, 119, 125, 126 & 127 (avg-#118)

The run defense ranking of the non-common teams WYO has played are 23, 38, 48, 66 & 95 (avg-#54)

So yeah, Pumphrey averages a little less than a yard per carry more than Hill, but he's done it against the easiest schedule imaginable. On paper it looks dominating, but dig down a little deeper and see who they've played against. Teams that can't stop the run and all their FBS opponents with losing records. Plus, Hill has more TDs and Pumphey has been tackled for a loss more times than Hill.

Losing this past Saturday takes a lot of shine off of this game, but I still think it'll be a close one, as does Vegas. We won't stop Pumphrey, but they won't stop Allen/Hill. I say we beat them by less than a TD in another high scoring game. The weather looks good for Saturday, too bad...

great analysis. I think that if we can pack the war and show the team that we are behind them we will get an A plus effort and it will be a hell of a game. I do not think this team is better then Boise and all things being equal I think we can beat them.

I feel like if we can keep them to like 35 points we can win. Big if, though. Our offense has been borderline unstoppable lately.

Your post is spot on, just one correction: SDSU as a team had 474, Pumphrey "only" had 198 rushing, Rashaad Penny had 208 rushing yards on just 10 carries

Brian Hill racked up 289 on 29 vs Nevada. But, I think Josh is a better QB than theirs if he doesn't play like he did at UNLV.

That leprechaun talks a lot of shit on Twitter. That team takes on the personality of their coach, and I for one look forward to when karma strikes back.

agreed something different go for 2 and see what may have happened, just glad there weren't any injuries to speak of, REFOCUS AND BIG TIME
