Prosinski....

And then give up a 46 yard completion by being a moron on 3rd and 12. He had NO reason to bite on the run on a third and long. San Diego will likely score right before half time because of it. He's really absolutely HORRIBLE on pass coverage.

You even said in the other thread, he was one of the 2 guys who bit on that. They must have seen something that we didn't at home on the TV. He's played big today. It's fans like you that get me frustrated...no matter how much good a guy does, you'll bite on the one that he didn't and go off on him.

GO POKES

No, that was a different play. He bit on both the 46 yard completion (on his own), and was one of two guys who bit on the TD. The reason I singled him out in the game day thread is that he was involved on BOTH plays.

I'm more understanding about him screwing up on the TD than the long completion. That's the confusion when you've got double coverage and one guy breaks off. It's both of their fault for not communicating.

Gipson was pretty awful on the first TD too, but I think that's really his only bad play so far (unless he was the second guy in the Prosinski situation? I couldn't tell).

As for going off on him... I like Prosinski, but I'm not going to be quiet when he completely screws up. He's the best we have at safety, but everybody who keeps believing he'll be as successful as Martin and Wendling are likely fooling themselves. He knocks guys out with his tackles and he does not let many ball carriers past him ever, but he has no head at all for pass coverage, and I don't blame him - it's what makes Safety a very hard position to play.

Marcel got burned but you are suppose to have safety help, and he wasn't there. I think we are better than SDSU but they got a couple of burners for WR's and they burned us all day. Doesn't help that we aren't getting enough pressure on the QB. Good play call on 2nd and short though. Have to give them credit. There was one play early in the second half that I knew they were going to run play action and burned us for big gainer.

Overall, Chris Pro is a good safety. He deserves credit in that he is one of the better tackling free safeties we have had in recent memory. He provides very good run support and is a huge reason we have hung with Air Force the last few years. If we faced option offenses week in and week out, he would be a HUGE asset for us. Obviously, that isn't the case though.

That being said, I do agree his coverage skills are pretty poor. He seems to completely lack the ability to read the offensive lineman. They will tell you whether it is a pass or run every single play. You see an offensive tackle take a step backward with his outside foot and you better be in back pedal mode and finding the receivers. Not sure what he uses as his reads, but it doesn't seem to be working.
