Prosinski....

Pro has been burned so many times you could barbeque a hot dog on him. I am not sure, however, that Shamiel isn't learning bad habits from our DC. I would give anything to know what the policy is for our Safeties. I am not nor is JC, that our own coaches aren't to blame for the Cowboy defense letting recievers get behind them.It may well be that our defense is leaning to hard on our safeties and corners coming up and making tackles. It use to be simple years ago playing safety, never let a player get behind you. It still may be the coaches screwing up the safeties.

. . . . so I guess you can say and post whatever you want to post. But just because you have a right to post it does not mean that you should post it.

I am mostly a lurker here, but I have been an active poster on a different board (for a different school). Everyone gets to set their own rules, but my rule is to not call out a player by name on a college board. As long as the young men are doing the best they can, that seems inappropriate to me. Yeah, they get a scholarship. [Well, most of them do, but not all of them.] But they work pretty hard for that scholarship. They make mistakes, certainly, but those mistakes are already pretty public. Most of us do not have jobs or avocations where our mistakes are caught on videotape for everyone to see. That is tough enough without our fans piling on.

As a relative newcomer to Wyoming sports, I am very impressed by the passion of Wyoming fans. Here we are in the smallest state in the union trying to run with the big boys. It is an uphill battle, but tens (if not hundreds) of thousands of people are passionate about the Pokes. That is a wonderful thing.

But I hate to see that passion turned against one of the kids who is doing his best to make the dreams of those who love the Pokes come true. As a very passionate fan, I have been tempted one many occasions to blast off against someone from one of my teams in a public forum like this. But that just does not seem productive.

As fans, there is little we can do to actually make a difference. Most of what we say here or elsewhere is not very important, because the coaches and players (and, sadly, officials) determine the outcomes of games, not us. But negativity toward one our players seems counterproductive, especially in a small state where that word might get back to that player. [Shouting at officials who are hurting our team with bad calls? Sure, both here and at the game. Criticizing coaching? I guess, but I think we should keep that within reason, too. But not players. Not college kids trying their best.]

Nobody has to follow this concept of avoiding criticism of players, especially by name. Feel free to tell me I am a fool and to keep my opinions to myself. That is all they are. [I will even admit that I have a new bias these days, as I am a parent of a member of the team (though not one who has had the good fortune of playing). So I am admittedly more sensitive about these things than I used to be when I was in "pure fan" mode.]

I do have a different rule for praising a player from our team. That, to me, is entirely appropriate. Since you raised the issue of Chris Prosinski, I will share my opinion, for what little (if anything) it is worth: I think the kid is a heck of a player. If not the best tackler on the team, he is certainly one of the best. I don't know if you have every tried to tackle someone in open space, all alone. Very possibly so, if you played football at any level, especially as a linebacker or in the secondary. If so, you will have to admit that it is not an easy thing to do. And I think Prosinski does it about as well as it can be done, by both hitting and wrapping up (instead of that "hit hard, but nothing else" approach that is so common these days).

Yes, it is true that our entire defensive backfield, especially the safeties, gets suckered in by run fakes and flea flickers every once in a while. But I don't think it is realistic to ask our safeties to do so much run support work and then expect that they won't fall for run fakes every once in a while. That is part of the joy of having a strong running game--it makes play action work.

If there is ever a time to take a shot at a college player on the board of fans for that player's team, this is a rather unusual time to take a broad shot at a defensive player. Our defense was outstanding yesterday. That loss stings. It really stings. [And I will be the first to admit that it undoubtedly stings even more for you who have been bleeding brown and gold for a lot longer than I have.] But taking out that understandable frustration on one of our best defensive players misses the target, in my opinion.

I have the say that's one heck of a post. I do agree with you. While it's one thing to point out that somebody got burned on a play, completely trashing them and dragging their name through the mud is another. Say what you want about the professional players, they make plenty of money in part BECAUSE of that pressure and BECAUSE tons of people will harp on them. College players on the other hand - not so much.

It is ridiculous that this thread is even up... JCintherock, I thought you did the world a favor and got rid of yourself.

I've lurked here for years and never once thought you idiots would drop as low as to calling out a player on a nameless forum and try to diminish what this young man has meant to our program. If only you god damn nerds had ever played a down a football and understood the sport more than what NCAA '11 and Madden has taught you.

1. if you have ever seen copies of game film in wide and tight views instead of what is broadcasted you may have better understanding as to what is going on... I agree that Prosinski has been burnt his fair share of the time, but 95% of the time it looks like he is getting burnt on TV is him reading and reacting to the quarterback and making a play on a receiver outside of his zone that have slipped through.

2. A secondary is only as good as it's pass rushers.... If a quarterback is given days to sit and read, and receivers are allowed to get in and out of their breaks it makes it nearly impossible for a secondary 4-5 (db's) to cover 4-5 receivers.... If you have never played the sport than you would be ignorant to the fact that Defensive Back is one of the most difficult position to play in football and without a pass rush, it is toughest position. A defensive back relies heavily on offensive tendencies. ie. Sunday practices the team receives a list of down and distance scenarios and what the offense does percentage wise during these scenarios. They then have these tendencies drilled into their head all week long, and are taught what to expect, ie. 3rd and Long SDSU runs middle screen 65% of the time. They also cover a number of gadget plays that the opposing offense has on film. For instance, the New Mexico Bowl... Fresno had had great success all year off of the double reverse. Prosinski reads double reverse, leaves his two deep position for run support, nearly gets the passer before he gets rid of ball, but to no avail they score. Great play call by the OC... I remember watching Wyoming run a double reverse throw back/flea flicker earlier this year and if it weren't for a poor throw from Crum, the play goes for six. Last I checked that was against a damn good TCU pass defense.

3. Do you have any idea what our defensive schemes are on a week in and week out basis? Christensen has said on numerous occasions, how import the safeties are to run support. You are on here criticizing the current #6 tackler in the history of Wyoming Cowboy Football, who will more than like finish in the top 3 and may eclipse 400 career tackles. I actually shat myself a little bit reading that this young man is overrated. Brian Lee is an All-Time great Cowboy! But they are entirely two different players, playing in two different defensive schemes. Lee played behind a very aggressive front 7 in which he was allowed to roam the field, jump hot reads, and play a true Free Safety... This led to a lot more picks. Prosinski hasn't and never will have this luxury. I'll never forget a few years ago when Air Force came to town. They ran Trip Opt Left from the 50yd line, Prosinski got caught in traffic reading the mesh point, gave the AF running back a 15yd head start and still ran him down before scoring, with the D ultimately holding AF to a field goal... This is the same young man who led the team with 140+ tackles last year... Here is where he stats rank right now on the team, Tackles:2nd 75 tot, INT:tied 1st 1, Forced Fumbles: 1st 2, Pass Break-ups 3:2nd 3(Tashaun with 5), and Blocked Kicks:2nd 2. I'm willing to bet the bank, that if you look back at his 3 years prior to this, he is towards the top of all all major pass defense categories.

I agree that we've had our struggles defensively... I agree that Chris hasn't been the ball hawk that Lee was. But to throw him alone under the bus, is ludicrous. I want the Pokes to win as bad as the next guy, but this thread is garbage and should be removed. It truly makes this forum look bad and dissolves whatever credibility it has ever had. JCintherock, zappinpoke and the rest of you goons attacking a 23 year old student athlete that has given this University as much as any player that has ever suited up in the Brown and Gold, go chase bugs... You guys are terrible examples of so called fans and should get back to whacking your pud and transfer your fanship to those douche bags in Provo. When he's playing on Sundays(next season if they play the season), I hope you clowns that hide behind your computer and anonymous nicknames enjoy the crow. You guys are fucking pathetic!

You should be careful of your generalizations. Message boards exist for people (fans & non-fans) to share their opinions. Whether you agree, or disagree, state your point and move along. Leave the personal attacks and name calling to the other Wyoming message board (you look just as foolish as the original post that "threw" #24 under the bus).

Personally, I think #24 is a terrific UW football player. He has served UW well. He will finish his career as one of the best ever at Safety for the Brown & Gold. And, sure, he has made mistakes, but so has everyone.

Show me were I called him any names, I only said he gets burned to many times deep. 2 years ago TCU burned him on the same play 3 times for touchdowns. The play you mentioned in the NM bowl he was 7-8 yds away from the qb when he let go of the pass. Now I agree jc calling him a mo-fro is out of line.

......since I don't have the time nor the patience here to debate your entire porous assessment, I will single out just one regarding the Fresno gadget play.....

.....IF THE EFFIN O-LINE IS IN PASS PROTECTION AND NOT RUN BLOCKING WHY IN THE HELL DO YOU ABANDON YOUR TWO DEEP SPOT?????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!......stupid, stupid, stupid analogy.

During bowl preps.....I bet the Fresno coaches were laughing at the thought of running that play thinking that number 24 would bite hard. They were right....

Now trust me....a many of decent safeties have been fooled by that play but, ..... using that as a vote of confidence is......well.......plain stupid.

Being totally objective, the best adjective for Prosinski is just that.......decent, nothing special.

As far as your TV angle point....stupid again. This opinion of Prosinski has been formed from being in stadiums over the last 3 years. Sitting with opposing fans, and yes.....watching replays. As far as replays,,,,,,,go watch the BYU game again and find the play where the dude makes the wrong read and then takes a bad angle TWO different times to try and make a play. Two times.....and he's a senior.

FYI......my little cousin verballed to UCLA as one of the top quarterbacks in the country. Brett Hundley Jr. His grandma is a Laramie native. HIs daddy ran track and played at Arizona. I sat with him at the Boise game. He bad-mouthed "Pro" many times during the game. Just the truth.

.....you might get a little offended if you read my posts. Just another FYI.

I've called out a handful of U-Dub players since these message board forums started.

Pasha Bains
Chris McMillian
Sidney Lewis
Michael Ray
Karsten Sween
Chris Stutzriem
Shamiel Gary...more for his antics in the Toledo game
Chris Prosinski

sorry, but everything one of these were done before anyone else said an ill word about them.

Who did I miss on????

Peace

HEATH SCHROYER

before he was hired.

SERIOUSLY

I was with you on this one JC. I didn't want to be right though. How long until our long state nightmare is over?

Hey JC!!!!! did you have any problems with Wendling????? Pro is just as good. What about Derick Martin??????
By the way you really need to stop the !!!!!!!'s and the ??????'s and the .........'s it's really annoying just type so we can read.

...I actually have hope this year.

Still can't stand Schroyer but.......his band of mis-fit toys fit together.

Somewhat.

Peace

.....John lacks in instincts as well.

Therefore a career special teamer.....but that completely OK!!!!!!!!

Prosinski's just as good??????????????......now that's some funny shit!!!!!

Sorry, but Prosinski is nowhere near Wendling. Wendling was faster, stronger, and slightly less prone to biting on fakes - that's why he's managed to stay a pro, whereas I highly doubt Prosinski will ever make it even to a practice squad.

Martin had a lot of flaws, but he made up for it by being very fast and strong. Much much faster than Prosinski. Again, a poor comparison.

I wish I had the list of credentials as you JC... You are cousins with a guy that verballed to UCLA and whose dad ran track at ASU?!?! My buddy's cousins with Tim Lincecum(sorry to one up you). Tim told him there was no way Texas gets by New York pitching and offense...Man was he wrong.

To me it sounds like you may have a little envy. Your a little man who never had what it takes to back up his big ass mouth, besides name drops! I remember beating up a kid like you in college. Talked real big when he was around his big friends. Alone, not so much and didn't afterward either. You should try getting off your knees over there with the visitors in their section. Games a lot easier to watch without nuts on your chin...

Here's a little pre-draft bio for Prosinski.
#9 FS in America, without accurate or up to date measurable's...many missing as well.
http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dsprofile.php?pyid=66166&draftyear=2011&genpos=FS

BTW, The players you also dogged on are no names to serious fan...

And all this talk about him being a poor tackler... 140 tackles last year, ranked 10th in NATION... Will more than likely avg. more than 10 tackles/game throughout his Cowboy career... I can almost guarantee no safety in Wyo history has done that!

I don't agree with JC's characterization of Prosinski, but this post is ridiculous as well. First of all, the personal insults towards JC are pretty amusing for a variety of reasons. Secondly, the tackle numbers for Prosinski are unfortunately an indictment of our entire defense. It means that there are a lot of tackles to be made because the offense continually moves the FB (and completes passes), and that the ball is frequently reaching the secondary. Both of those things have been quite true during Pro's tenure, especially the last couple of years.

The responsibility (or blame, I suppose) falls on the shoulders of the entire defense and coaching staff, including Prosinski.

.....nah. You've never "whooped" anybody like me.

Brett's daddy......who used to be one of those scumbag, offer kids money in college kinda runner/agent knows a little bit about talent. It's too bad that I can't recreate the facial expressions when I mentioned that folks around these parts thought that he was the real deal.

I could care less about his "measurables". All that someone has to do is turn the tape on. That'll seal the deal.

Tom Corontzos anyone???

He won't make an Indoor league roster. Watch.

Are you Chris????

Seriously

We're name dropping?
Psh, I grew up with an Olympic Cross Country Gold medalist from the 2010 Vancouver Olympics... ooooh yeaaaah. Actually, he was the reason I quit skiing.

Suck on that one. Also, I bet nobody's dad can beat mine up.

Ha ha, I'll see what I can do on the change up, it is dirty... Believe me I am the farthest thing from Chris, just one of those so called guys that thinks he can make it to the next level. He's a scholar athlete, semi-finalist for the Draddy, give him some time with pro-type coaches, no injuries, and I can all but guarantee the kid is successful at the next level. On that 98 yard fumble return I remember him pulling away from Kerley(sp), who is largely thought to be the fastest dude in the MWC.

I was surprised to see we actually agreed on Schroyer though... Before he got here I didn't think that guy was worth my shit paper, let alone 4 years of my time and season tickets spent to follow a less than mediocre product.

The whole talk about him going pro is ridiculous, let alone any guy going pro from this squad. Our best players of all time don't do shit in the pros, except maybe one tight end and another guy who played on some dolphin team before I was born. Our best hoops player of all time was just voted the worst NBA player ever to win a ring. That's Fennis if you didn't know. Who actually had a career? Theo and that's about it. Don't bust out some white guy playing the NBA back when there was short shorts and peach baskets. Bottom line, we have a player go pro with a lasting career maybe once every time I am reincarnated.
