Heath Schroyer - 2007 upon being hired at UW

"From the beginning of the search our goal was to find the coach who could lead this program back to the top of the Mountain West Conference," Burman said. "In Heath, we have an individual who has been part of significant rebuilding jobs at Brigham Young, Fresno State and Portland State. Each became better when he got involved.

"Fortunately, as long as this Cowboy team stays together and is willing to embrace the changes, Wyoming has a chance to be successful immediately."

"I am honored, and extremely excited to be the head basketball coach at Wyoming," Schroyer said. "I know how important this program is to the state of Wyoming, and to Cowboy fans throughout the country. It is my belief that this job has unlimited potential. It is a special place. I know we can be successful because I was a part of a very successful time here. I have been in this league, and I know what it takes. "We are going to build a program that will make every Cowboy fan proud. We will do it with a great work ethic, something the people of this state know all about."

Tom Burman - upon being hired in 2006

"I care deeply about this university and the success of UW athletics and our student-athletes. We will build a program that wins conference championships and generates enthusiasm across this great state. The future starts now."

"The University of Wyoming Strategic Plan for Intercollegiate Athletics has two overarching goals. The first is to ensure that we operate our program with absolute integrity, which includes ensuring that our student-athletes earn a first-rate university education. The second is to be competitive in every sport within the Mountain West Conference," says Buchanan.

"Tom Burman is a Wyoming guy, and some UW fans will applaud his selection on this basis alone," says Buchanan. "That's not why I hired Tom. Of the five outstanding finalists for this position, Tom was clearly the best person for this position right now. "The University of Wyoming is poised for greatness in intercollegiate athletics, just as we are poised for academic greatness. Thanks to the vision of our political and institutional leaders - and the good fortune of high energy prices - we have the money, the facilities, and the people we need to be competitive," says Buchanan. "Now, with the hiring of Tom Burman, I believe we are ready to climb to the top of the Mountain West Conference. As athletics director at Portland State, he turned around an underachieving program in a matter of a few years."

Ok, here is the thing. I do not see us being "at the top of the MWC"!! I do not see us being competitive is all sports, especially the money makers. I do not see where the program has been built to where ANYONE is proud of it.

Folks, the enthusiasm for the basketball program is obviously at an all-time low. This state is a very proud state and it doesn't deserve to be embarrassed by athletics seen on a national level. If people can't do the job of turning this situation around, and obviously they can't, it is time for them to either step down from their positions, which if they really cared about the university they would, and man-up and say they couldn't do their job, or be fired!

It is truely painful for this state to have to deal with this. It is sad to say but "Cowboy Pride" is almost extinct. It is definetly time for a change!!!

Well, 4 years later and the future has come and gone. The closest thing we have to a MWC championship team is women's basketball. Not that I don't love the Cowgirls but really?
Great post...sure a lot of lip service bullshit!

He was obviously falling-down-drunk when he said this. What a crock of SHIT.
