Just wanted to throw this out there. Graduated in 2014 for UW and I’ve never known or even cared about who the president of the university is/was. It is a breath of fresh air to see the openness/visibility of the new UW president from fb/instagram videos to the student spotlight interviews he really care about connection and exposure leading UW into the next great years. Now to see if football can follow suit like Sunny has done with basketball. GO POKES!!!

The optimism surrounding men's basketball is quite surprising to me. Wicks has two 9th place finishes in his first two years here. He has a 35% winning percentage in the MWC. We have a LONG way to go before we are anywhere close to challenging for a MWC championship.

Don't get me wrong, I like Wicks. I don't necessarily thinks the failings in the basketball program are his fault. Before the NIL era, I think Wicks would have built a winning program at UW. With NIL, I'm not sure there is any coach that can accomplish that at UW without an influx of more money.

I like the General. I really do. I love his enthusiasm.

Unfortunately, he will need to move from solely cheerleading to making tough decisions soon - particularly in the athletic department but elsewhere too. He absolutely should enjoy his honeymoon without immediately roiling the waters - but he has a tiger by the tail that is incredibly mean and has no interest in being tamed.

His success will be measured by what he does - not what he says or what song plays between the 3rd and 4th quarter of football games. And he has a lot - A LOT - to do.

I think the slate needs to be cleaned for Wicks’ first season. He was hired too late to get much of anything out of the portal. They improved in year two. I expect them to improve more this season. Ask me how I feel about him after this year.

At this point, I can still rally behind Wicks for one year for sure maybe two.

This was never the case with Sawful from his hiring, his first presser, his meet and greet in Denver and the AState blowout seled my thoughts. Downhill further since then!

Sums up my thoughts as well.

He is a likable guy. He is definitely more visible than any other UW President I can recall. He says he wants to put an emphasis on athletic success.

All good things, but we need to start seeing some decisions that back up the rhetoric. Sitting on our hands to let Burman ride off into the sunset and guaranteeing ourselves another year of an awful head football coach doesn't exactly show an urgency for fixing things.

He also needs to try to find some more monies to attract out-of-state students or enrollment is going to continue to decline, or at least stagnate.
