Premature Pondering...

Speaking of premature pondering, whats the future for the UW program as a whole? Is the Mountain West where you think you'll stay? Or is there potential to join a bigger conference?

The Mountain West is our home. If we were to leave to go anywhere (which at this point is very unlikely) we would be tied to CSU, Air Force, and New Mexico.

Yep. We're the sheep's biggest and oldest rival (CU is basically forced to play them by the state legislature, and we've played the sheep longer), Air Force has played us longer than they have the other military academies, and New Mexico and us have been together since the original WAC.

Bohl will only leave for Nebraska? Really...Hypothetically speaking...I bet if Wyo were to an average of 11-12 games per year over the next 5 seasons and Texas or Bama or Florida or USC offered him a job he would easily go to those schools.

Everyone has a number, and fortunately for those schools, they have a bigger number.

Think about the success Petersen had at Boise, Look how long he was there and where he went. He had a few opportunities to leave and he could have but he didn't until he felt that he could do nothing else with the program.

If Bohl has that type of commitment I think he will retire in Wyoming. If in 5 years he has 5 seasons above .800 he might see offers from some of the smaller BCS schools. Petersen was at Boise for 7 years as a coach and 4 years as an OC. Personal thought is it's going to take a lot longer than 5 years of success for those schools to come calling.

Yep, and quite frankly these are all best case scenario circumstances. There is a good chance the Bohl era could open with multiple less-than 6-win seasons until he builds the program to his liking. At that point he'll be pushing his 60's. Assuming he'll be successful, I doubt Bohl goes elsewhere....He was hired to rebuild this program long term.

Assuming Bohl is anything like any other coach that has been here for the last bazillion years it doesn't matter what he might do because he will be fired after 5 or 6 seasons with 1 or 2 bowl games! haha

But seriously...
Joe Glenn was all hyped up when we got him.
DC was even more hyped up.

BUT...we all know it's different NOW because of what ever reason you want to come up with to make yourself feel better.

The last 15 years haven't been very good to Wyoming Head Coaches. Based upon what has happened to them, it seems likely that Bohl would be fired.

I really hope that isn't the case. I think he is a better coach than what we have had in the last 15 years. It is very tough to see that without him actually coaching a game at Wyoming yet. However, when he introduced himself at the basketball game a few months ago, he had me so pumped up I was ready to walk on.

This leads me to think he will probably be able to recruit the players he wants. Lloyd Eaton had an imaginary line on a map in his office. He would not recruit below that line because it didn't snow often and the players wouldn't fit in Laramie. I see that same attitude with Bohl.

I think he will turn the program around. It isn't an easy process by any means. I have a feeling if Nebraska called, he would leave. I don't know about any other program though - and I would be speculating without any evidence if that was the case.

Regardless, here is to getting it turned around! Go Pokes!

No doubt we need more money, but not all of that is the AD's fault.

At minimum, if big schools get to form their own regulatory body within the NCAA and get to follow different rules, then the little schools should be afforded the same luxury. Little schools should be able to vote on how many sports they offer. If we could reduce our sports or make more club sports, then maybe we could increase budgets of our "major sports".

Also, I'm all for equality, but Title IX is outdated. The costs associated with Title IX have gone up substantially since the law was initiated.

If a sport is completely self sufficient, then I'm not sure it should be counted for Title IX. I get the reasoning for including all sports, but Title IX needs to be re-visited for schools that are under 40 million dollar athletic budgets (or some number).

I have thought that this change is was in order since the 1990's or early 2000's.
