Premature Pondering...

We (as in Wyoming Football fans) will inevitably start the discussion as to how long a coach will stay around. Figured I would get it started sooner rather than later...

CCB will be 56 at the start of the season opener. Given the fact that UW was able to get him to come to the high plains coupled with CCBs comments on his feelings toward the university and the state (along with his actions)...I have a feeling that he is dedicated to the program for the long-term regardless of immediate success (I hope this happens), or a constant building into a successful program (more likely).

Could CCB be the coach that sticks with this program after he gets Wyoming Football back into championship contention (assumed), or do you think he would have aspirations for getting back to the "big boy" leagues?

There's been talk he really wants a Big Ten job.....but of course nobody truly knows, although I bet some Bison fans will claim they do.

Obviously this is a premature discussion of course. We've had similar threads about DC.

The only way I see that happening right away is that Wyoming wins a conference championship within the next 3 years...that puts CCB at 60 headed to a new job (if he is going that route). The big question is: How long does he plan on coaching the college game and what B10 job would be enough to pull him away from Laramie?

I guess what I'm getting at is CCB maybe just what Wyoming needed in turning around the culture of the program, and that he may be here for the long-term given his feelings toward the state and it's fan (assumed) and his desire to turn Wyoming into a winning program (taking him at his word).

But he already turned down Big10 jobs to come here...so why wouldn't he have just taken one at the time?
Maybe they were lower level Big10 like Indiana, and he might want something like Nebraska or Michigan.

From Fargo here, I don't believe Coach Bohl ever had a big 10 offer, nor any other major offers.

That been talk of Northern Illinois type programs, but Big 10, Big 12 was all Bisonville chatboard driven.

Should have he gotten the chance at Minnesota 6-7 years ago when the Gophers hired Tim Brewster? Sure he should have but didn't.

You got a good one. If he does move on to K State or Nebraska, that means he was winning in Wyoming. And that is a good thing.

That is something all the angry NDSU fans need to realize.

So many NDSU fans are butt-hurt about Bohl leaving, even though he just 3-peated the National Title. He moved on to a bigger program.
In college football, there are probably only 3 or 4 jobs that someone wouldn't leave for a bigger job. But even then, the NFL can and will take the top college coaches.

LSU fans hold a grudge on Saban. Florida fans hold a grudge on Meyer.
Maybe Texas and Bama are the only two that won't have their coaches picked off by a bigger program. But even then, there are 32 bigger programs that will take who they want.

I miss coach bohl. You don't realize how the guy was everywhere, maybe just got used to seeing him on the news, advertising, starbucks near where I lived, unitl he is gone.
. He was and you are seeing is a PR machine. He will make you feel good about the program. If you get the chance and see he him. Go introduce yourself, and you will really feel good about what your in your program. That is worth something.

Bohl would leave WYO for one job only.....Nebraska. To get an offer from Nebraska there would have to be2 things happen. First the Nebraska job would have to be vacant and second he will have to show success in reforming the Cowboy program. If those two things don't happen he will retire out of Wyoming.

The pull to Nebraska is obvious. His parents live there, his kids were raised there, and he is still seeking vindication for being fired when DC there. I really doubt he would ever look at anything else. I would suspect that Bo Pelini will piss off the Nebraska fans and get canned after this season. Bohl will not have had enough time to show his stuff at WYO, so an offer from Nebraska would be a very long shot. By the time another vacancy would occur at Nebraska, Bohl will be retired. So....My money says he never leaves Laramie for another job.

If Bohl could turn into a long term version of Paul Roach, I would not object at all.

And although he may be open for leaving for Nebraska after being successful here, after checking out the Nebraskaska forums from time to time, most fans there do not want him back.

I suspect that would change if Wyoming were to have a solid season and win the MWC and Nebraska were to suck horribly. But a lot of stuff has to align time wise to make it happen. That is why Bohl will likely stay put. Even if he does terrible in Laramie, he will be ready to retire by the time Burman would ever get around to firing him. Bohl has nothing to lose. ....And he likely will bring the program some respect. If Bohl can't get significant improvement in the football program at Laramie, there is something systematic and deeply wrong with the whole athletic department.

" there is something systematic and deeply wrong with the whole athletic department."

I hope this isn't true.......but not the first time it was said........ :?

I also hope not, also. However, I can't come up with any other reason as to why we have been terrible at both major sports for so long. We are approaching 2 decades of mediocrity or worse.

It's been said many times but I hope they increase marketing, etc. Provide travel/bus deals for people on the other side of the state....try and get more kids in the stands...etc. I'm sure some of this is occurring...but why not allow kids under 10 in free for certain games? Then they at least have to bring in a few parents and create lifelong fans....I like the idea of trying to further inclose the stadium. Obviously not a dome but try and block more wind with keeping the beautiful trees as a part of the stadium.

*I do see they paved the parking lot a while back....always wondered what took so long.

Excuse my ramblings....been a long day :twocents:

It blows my mind that the University doesn't team up with a transportation company and run buses from places like Casper, Rock Springs, or even Cheyenne to get people to Laramie without them having to worry about how to get back. Seems like a really simple thing to get set up.
