Potential coaches if DC is sent packing...

Narduzzi DC at Michigan State (we've done OK with MSU coaches in the past)
Claeys DC at Minnesota
Mason DC at Stanford
Frost OC at Oregon
Fickell DC at Ohio State

May be premature...but I am not sold on the lower level HC. It is a roll of the dice given the experience with Glenn, Wulff and, well, everyone but Tressell. Speaking of Tressell...

Narduzzi is a big-time DC.....but I hope he would not adopt MSU's offense approach. Pokes would go from losing games 51-44 to losing games 10-7.

Frost is going to get a big-time job once Helfrich teaches him a few things. Fickell is way out of our league.

I think the only two realistic chances on that list is Claeys and Mason. Claeys will not leave Minnesota though as he has been on Jerry Kills staff for 20 years and I doubt he leaves now. The other candidates on that list would take much more money than we are paying DC at the moment, and with the potential of having to pay DC some of the rest of his contract I don't know where we can come up with that without an increase in donors.

Claeys may end up taking over Minnesota depending on Jerry Kill's health and chronic seizure problem.

They are out of our league, but who isn't out of our league right now? We are in a bad spot and need a drastic change in philosophy. CSU stepped out onto a very precarious ledge...and it seems to be paying off for them. I don't think we can afford to not think big...

I would kick the tires on Jim Leavitt. I'd also take a look at the guy at NDSU. What Wyoming needs is a complete head coach, not an offensive or defensive coordinator pretending to be a head coach.

I don't want a coach who makes excuses about players fitting into his system like DC has. A good coach will adjust his system to maximize his players potential and be creative. You didn't see Jim Harbaugh make excuses when he turned around San Diego and Stanford. He used creativity, motivation, and great recruiting to turn around those programs.

What is the max the university could actually spend on a coach? That's going to be the biggest limitation.

That's like saying Jim Mclewin is out of CSU's league. They were in a worst spot than us and got the OC from a national championship team.

McElwain had plenty of incentive to come West.. he's from the West (from Missoula) plus CSU gave him a lot of money, plus a stepping stone to a bigger job.

How are they out of our league? Do you guys think that DC was some small time coordinator at a small school?
He was the TOP ASSISTANT in the NCAA.
The #1 guy....
He may not be much of a head coach NOW, but 5 seasons ago, he was the #1 coordinator there was.
How is anyone out of our league if we landed him?

Offer the $1.5 million CSU's coach is getting, and Wyoming can nab any assistant in the country not in line for a BCS job. I mean fuck.....why not go after Alabama DC Kirby Smart? Throw $1.5 million at him.....worked for CSU.

Then again, Bama didn't win those titles because of their offense...they won it because of their defense and those 5 star O-Linemen and NFL running backs.

Five years ago he was the number one assistant. And four years ago DC had an impressive bowl win, was the MWC coach of the year, and seemed to be the talk of the town concerning an up and coming program.

And only six years prior to that we brought in a complete coaching staff that had won national championships on multiple levels........coming from the NDSU of that time.......and they beat CSU and BYU their first year and had one of the most impressive bowl victories in UW history their next year.

WTF happens?

At any rate, no idea if this guy would coach again, but I think it would be an intriguing hire. Offense heavy in experience, but also a lot of success at ECU as HC, a program I see as similar to UW. Steve Logan. Link below:

Okay, I seen coordinators and retired coaches and coaches from a lower divisions on everyone's list. Why not try to sway an already successful FBS coach in a lower ranked conference?

Maybe the coach at Ball St. They run a pretty successful spread and have a decent D. I'm sure he doesn't make more than maybe 300 to 400k a year. We could offer a coach who already knows and is succeeding in our FBS.

There are 53 current coaches making less than Dave Christensen.

The HC at Ball State currently makes $400,000. I think an $800,000 raise would entice him...

Pete Lembo? He's done a good job in Muncie......hiring a Ball State coach sure turned things around for SDSU.....

That's an interesting name.
