Postseason

I hadn't really realized this, but it looks like the Pokes have a good shot at the NIT this year. We have a very good rpi still in the 60s and being in the conference we are it looks like a good shot at it. As someone said in another forum we are right now projected in at around a 5 or 6 seed. From what I have heard both the NIT and CBI have shown interest in us the last couple weeks. Here is to hoping for an NIT berth!

NCAA: New Mexico, UNLV, Colorado State, San Diego State
NIT: Boise State, Air Force
CBI: Wyoming

I don't think they would allow 3 MWC teams into the NIT.

Honestly, we are probably about one win shy of the NIT for the second year in a row.

I actually thought last year's team had a better profile.

NCAA: New Mexico (3), UNLV (5), CSU (7), SDSU (8), Boise State (11)
NIT: Air Force
CBI: Wyoming (on the road)

AFA would get into the NIT with a lower RPI than the Pokes? Why? Name? Easier to travel to? Certainly not for projected home game attendance - Pokes would get more at home than the AFA stadium holds. But on the other hand, AFA beat the Pokes twice so that may matter.

I think Boise is going to sneak into the tourny and it will only be us and AFA in the NIT.

I totally agree with this, even though they beat us twice, it's the records, rpi and type of wins/losses...i really think being under 70 we should get NIT, history bodes well for us in the NIT

This has us in the CBI, http://www.bankrollsports.com/blog/cbi-bracketology/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

If you go to the NIT bracketology It shows Boise a solid #1 seed for NIT and AFA a #5 seed for NIT.

I could see this.

I've changed my mind. All the bubble teams are losing (Baylor, La Salle, Virginia).....Boise may get into the NCAA Tourney.

I want Oregon State vs. Wyoming. Just so we can watch BeaverPoke squirm.....

Lol I would cheer for Wyo in a heartbeat. And OSU already said they are not going to be playing in the CBI, they are not gonna fork over the bucks. They said something along the lines of "we are tired of the cbi, we feel the only tourney we should be playing in is the NCAA so we are not doing the cbi, we are gonna improve...blah blah blah."

this guy has us pegged as a 6 seed in the NIT, Air Force as a 3 seed

Hey when you fork over money for a postseason tourney with a losing record all the time? Of course you know fans of losing teams are not going to come out. If Wyo goes deep and we get some good home match ups we will see some good crowds.

But notice that Boise State is not listed. In my opinion (based on observations from
previous years), if Boise State doesn't make the NCAAs, then they will be in the NIT
and the Pokes will be, for sure, out. But I don't think they will be considered anyway,
so it's a moot point.

I think to say that they won't even be considered is a far fetched statement. Their RPI is in the 60's still, they play in one of the toughest conferences in the nation. I'm not saying they are going to get in- but I think it's ridiculous for everyone to think that we aren't going to make it for sure.

Also- I strongly believe that Boise State will make the tourney, which will only help our cause as a potential NIT Team. Here is a list of last year's NIT Teams:

NIT: Marshall (21-13, 43), Oral Roberts (27-6, 51), UCF (22-10, 54), Akron (22-11, 55), Middle Tennessee (25-6, 56), Miami, FL (19-12, 60), Mississippi (20-13, 61), Oregon (22-9, 63), Northwestern (18-13, 65), Drexel (27-6, 66), Nevada (26-6, 67), Seton Hall (20-12, 68), St. Joseph's (20-13, 69), Washington (21-10, 71), Northern Iowa (19-13, 73), Mississippi State (21-11, 75), Arizona (23-11, 76), Massachusetts (22-11, 77), Dayton (20-12, 81), LSU (18-14, 84), Cleveland State (22-10, 85), La Salle (21-12, 86), Tennessee (18-14, 87), Bucknell (24-9, 89), Minnesota (19-14, 90), Valparaiso (22-11, 95), Stanford (21-11, 97), Illinois State (20-13, 100), Texas-Arlington (24-8, 110), Iowa (17-16, 130), Stony Brook (22-9, 152), Savannah State (21-11, 191)

I believe we are comparable to Miami, FL, Northwestern, Northern Iowa, Tennessee, LSU, Minnesota, and Iowa- all who were NOT auto-bids for the NIT. All who did not make 20 wins, and most who had similar or WORSE (Iowa- 130?) RPI's.

I did not have BSU in the tourney after Wednesday nights loss.....but damn, EVERYTHING fell their way this week! All the other bubble teams lost......looks like the MWC will end up getting 5 teams in.

Oh....according to mos NIT brackets, Wyoming is a bubble team. This guy has them in....

http://www.bracketologyexpert.com/2013/03/11/daniel-evans-nit-bracketology-march-12/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

And so does this guy...

http://nycbuckets.com/2013/02/nit-bracketology-the-confusing-bubbles/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Poke fans may be in for a really nice surprise tomorrow night. Considering the awful performance in conference play, what a treat the NIT would be!
