POSTERIZED: Adams Dunks on Birch

I was talking about Hankerson that may not be back. Washington, as far as I know he's coming back.

Looking at it now, I see where I made the grammatical error. My bad.

I think Trey Washington makes the biggest improvement in the off-season.
The kid is way talented, but something is going on with him when he is playing.

The first game of the season he dropped 14 points, and looked legit. He plays MWC play and air-balls multiple shots in a row.
He just needs an off-season in Laramie, playing ball with Adams and Grabau just being himself. Not trying to impress the older guys, and earn the spot, not hope they give it to him.

He will be good for the Pokes I believe, just not this year!

I have felt the same way. His issue is mental. Earlier in the year, his shot looked fantastic and he was able to challenge the defense via dribble penetration in a way that Grabau can't. I think he let the lack of playing time impact his mental approach and he was trying to hard or just not in the right frame of mind. I do believe he has the ability to be a starting guard in the MWC. Grabau struggled his first year (hit only 3 3-pointers all season and contributed very little), but has been able to provide significant contributions to the program and I think Washington's ceiling is much higher.

His issue is absolutely mental. The kid is a basket case. If you watch him during the game, the first time he misses a shot or has a turnover he completely breaks down and is useless the rest of the game. It's really pretty sad to watch. If the kid could get his head right he will be a good ball player, but it seems like if he isn't the dominant player he's become used to being his entire life then he feels like he can't compete.

Trey is going to have to work his rear off in the off-season in order to get his confidence back. Not only did his shot completely leave him during conference play, but his ball handling suffered, too. I'm not sure he endeared himself with some Cowboys fans either with what looked like pouting during timeouts because he wasn't getting floor time.

Concerning his potential, Trey came into this season receiving very positive comments from guys like Fran Fraschilla, along with Coach Shyatt. It certainly turned out to be an eye-opening year for him. From comments in the fall, he seemed confident that he could get around 15+ minutes a game. I was certainly hoping he could grab some of Grabau's time (particularly on the defensive end). Unfortunately, it didn't work out that way.

We'll see how much he grows this off-season. Hopefully, he makes a big jump.
