Post Game Press Conference

I don't want to hear anything about being young or about the positive plays we can take from this bla bla.

All I want is, "Wyoming fans, I'm sorry, that was unacceptable. I will do whatever it takes to fix this, we will take a hard look at every player and coach on this staff because this is an embarrassment."

Nothing more.

If he comes out and says he is willing to do anything it takes to fix this, then English better not be at practice next week. Get that piece of crap out of Wyoming gear and ship him on his way. I don't know if I am more pissed or embarrassed right now!

I was at the game tonight- I thought our loss to UNLV last year was the most embarrassed I'd ever felt as a Cowboy fan... right up until about 2 hours ago.

Worse still- I was embarrassed for Marty English. By the middle of the 2nd quarter, all I could do was stare at him as he flipped through the cards hanging around his neck, signaling wildly on each ensuing, utterly futile defensive play. The players clearly- a) don't have a clue what he's trying to tell them; b) don't care about what he's trying to tell them; c) don't understand their actual roles as he's trying to outline them; or d) two or more of the preceding possibilities. The refs were merciful multiple times in looking the other way as our 12th player scrambled at the last second to get off the field as the ball was snapped. Quite simply, he became pathetic to look upon.

How is it not painfully obvious to Christensen, and anyone watching the game, that the job is beyond English's capabilities? It's been obvious to me for 3 seasons now.

Not defending English (believe me NOT defendhing him) but USU didn't start a drive with field position worse than their own 45. Folks that is INSANE! This kicking situation has been getting worse over the years and now has reached catestrophic levels. Honestly, i think that has to be THE #1 recruiting priority.

As for the defense... wow. I dont think i have ever seen a Wyo defense this bad. And this was supposed to be the strength of the team. Its not the line, its the lb and the secondary. And there just seems to be zero agressiveness; a totall timid team.

Absent a total turn around, English will HAVE to go.

I know they started at least one drive worse than the 45, because they drove 99 yards on us after a sweet punt.

As BrewPoke pointed out, that's not quite accurate. The punting was fine. It's not pretty (however, it's the rugby-style punt that resulted in the hit that resulted in the USL flag on USU's coach), but McCoy did just fine. It's the return coverage which is handled by- shocker- mostly defensive personnel. Now placekicking, that's another story...

As for you assertion that the DL isn't part of the problem- which games have you been watching? Our line can't penetrate a bowl of soup. All night long USU rushed 3 and either flushed Smith or sacked him. The LB's specialize in missing tackles with no lane discipline, and the DB's don't seem to have a clue how to cover passes. It was only on two late USU possessions that someone on the sideline seemed to figure out that rushing 7 would pressure the LOS, take away their run, and hurry their throws- and we still went sackless.

Hmm, "sackless"- that's a great description of UW's defense and special teams this season. If they were a movie, that'd be the title- "Sackless".

The DL is a huge part of the problem on defense. They are overmatched, mainly due to size, and that allows them to be handled one on one. Which then frees up a O-lineman to chip and get into the linebackers. Our linebackers were non-existent last night. If they make the play, it is 6 to 7 yards past the line of scrimmage and they are backing up while they do it.

The defense looks confused 100% of the time. Most of the time they are still looking at the sideline when the ball is snapped. This is inexcusable when you are 5 games into the season.

I can accept that we are young and undersized. That is a part of the rebuilding process. What I can't accept is an inept defensive coordinator who should have been let go with the Joe Glen regime. Bring in a DC who can play with the big boys, and lets move on!! I am tired of sitting through embarrassing nights like last night God Dammit!!!!

First thing: Ad in the Boomerang announcing open tryouts for a kicker for Kickoffs. Someone who can put it into the end zone. We are at 7220!!! I don't care if the kid can't kick a FG or extra point find someone who can just put it into or out of the end zone on kickoffs!!!! Get a damn girl from the soccer team I don't care!

Second: Holy hell when you are playing a team that all they can do is run the ball put 9 in the box play tight man to man on the outside and force the freshman QB to beat you! We were playing 7 in the box and that soft crap zone until late in the game!

Third: Do the coaches know how to make adjustments at half or on the fly? They were not doing anything special and we didn't change our philosophy at all during the game!

Fourth: Marty stop trying to substitute after every play on D. Especially when they are trying to play fast! Do some conditioning and get the best 11 on the field and give them the D call ASAP and if necessary let the Captain make adjustments on the field. We have a Senior LB and two Senior DL and a Senior DB who should know how and when to make call adjustments by now.

Totally Embarrassed today to be a Wyoming fan and it's worse b/c I live in Utah!

The other thing I have to add is that we were coming off of a freakin' bye week!! So English had 2 weeks to prepare for USU's offense. The result= a touchdown every time USU's first team touched the ball.

Oh wait. Marty, you did stop them on one drive. When they freakin' kneeled down before halftime. Great game plan!!

USU could have started every drive on their 1 and it wouldn't have mattered last night.

The defense is just so timid on its heels every play. We just seem to play a "base" defense every snap hoping to keep everything in front of us. No one attacks no one hits anybody. Everyone of our tackles are our guys dragging someone down going forward instead of hitting them backward.

Tashaun Gibson looked like the only one out there who wanted to hit anybody. Unfortunately when he is playing safety that means he won't hit the guy until they are 10 yards downfield.

USU didn't even break that many big plays, it was just a steady flow of 6-12 yard gains right through our "ghost" defense. Hey at least we "kept it all in front of us."

All game long, I saw our DL getting pushed aside like children. WTH !!! I saw almost no try to get off the blocks or even trying to plug the gap. I played the game (a long time ago), and if someone put me on my butt one play, then 9 times out of 10 I would put them on their back the next play.

I don't DC will put up with this crap and Mary English will be gone after this season. The guy could coach linebackers but its been obvious he's a horrible coordinator. Question is, will DC pull the plug right now? If he did, he could lose a player or two and it's unlikely we have an assistant that would do any better? We basically have 3 weeks to install a new coordinator and system if he pulled the plug now with UNLV coming up then another bye week. I think if he keeps English on, we'd see the patch work gimmicks like we saw on offense last season with Arroyo on the hot seat.

I'd say the honeymoon is definitely over.

Wyoming right now has some of the best D players it has had in probably a decade.. some fantastic individuals, Hendricks, Knapton, Beizuns, Gipson.. some of the best to suit up in the last decade for us. Every year since DC came the offense has gotten better and playmakers have been emerging from his recruiting classes. I don't feel comfortable saying the same on defense.. it seems like defense has been ignored and it's showing.. and it starts with the coordinator.
