Polasek Hiring

I'm not sure what resources it would cost UW, but it is odd that the interview reportedly took place in a UW facility.

Typically, these sorts of interviews are set up at a private location like a hotel. It is also odd that Bohl was there given that he was not officially affiliated with either program at that time.

What resources?
University of Wyoming buildings/facilities. Facilities built with public dollars. Typical ethical rules would indicate that it’s not ok to use those for non-university purposes (there are rules that allow entities to rent certain facilities on campus but doubtful that is what occurred based on Cody’s reporting). It would especially seem inappropriate to use those facilities so a competitor can come in and directly compete and hire away your employees.

It’s not the maybe $10 of increase in electric and utility costs we are talking about. These are standard ethical norms for the use of facilities.

It once again shows the total lack of control that our AD has over the department. How on earth would any intelligent AD allow Bohl to operate like this. Reason 637 to fire Burman.

UW Regulation 6-4
I. POLICY: It is the policy of the University of Wyoming to permit the use of University buildings and grounds and equipment by internal and external users, as defined within this policy, if such use is consistent with the University's primary purposes, i.e. instruction, research and public service. The University retains the right to determine which activities are consistent with its primary purposes.

Is a competing university hiring away your employees "consistent with the University's primary purposes" of instruction, research and public service? I would say no but the athletic department may believe differently.

That would not appear to me to be an appropriate use of Wyoming resources if true as reported by Cody Tucker.

Termination offense number 429. The gift that keeps on giving, it is almost like Burman hates Wyoming Athletics, and wants to tank the whole thing even further before his exit in 272 days.

This reporting really has me re-thinking Bohl's legacy here at Wyoming. Bohl 'retires', works with the AD to put Sawvel in-place which facilitates his son's promotion/pay increase and then (according to Cody's reporting) immediately works with a separate University (on Wyoming's campus no less) to hire away Wyoming's offensive coordinator. And that Bohl was allegedly given free reign to do these things should really put a microscope on the athletic department's leadership, their oversight and whether they are even acting in the University's interest. Combined with the CSU home game deal, Sawvel contract and other deals, this is a lot more than smoke from my perspective but will likely (and has been) presumably swept under the rug.

If any journalists had any balls, there might be a intriguing article to be written about all of this.

Agree fully. Cody wrote the article as some feel good story of the Wyo/NDSU 'rivalry' and Polasek landing his 'dream job'. But he is smart and I would think he had to have known these facts he was reporting would raise real red flags in regards to the Wyoming program and athletic department, right?

Bingo. You said what wanted to say but wasn’t able to do it as you beautifully did.

Evidently, there’s been some shady shit going down in the UW Athletics Program. Who would have guessed? Burman needs a one way ticket to get the hell out of here.
