I thought he'd have to have a Korver-like season for us to be playing this well.Cowboy Junky said:The program has been in a consistently good place for a while now.
I think last year was a blip on the radar, where we lost five seniors and the majority of our minutes from an NCAA tourney team. Last season was the abnormal one.
The program arrived several years ago, now it's just about reloading/retooling to remain one of the top 4 MWC basketball programs every season.
The next few seasons, we'll likely have more potential for greatness, but we're still a top MWC basketball squad this year.
Agreed that the style, staff, tempo.....is all 180 degrees different. The players are the same, Edwards and Jeremy are the same.
I think Papa Shy brought stability back to Wyoming basketball. We still have a top heavy class to spread out(all the juniors we lose next season). We have great facilities. We have a winning culture. We have a successful program in the classroom. We have the depth in talent and coaching to be successful EVERY season.
The foundation was layed under Shyatt. Edwards and staff have done a marvelous job of altering that foundation, but the type of recruits we're getting, and the development our players are getting from the staff puts us in a position to be a top four MWC team EVERY season.
I think we'll see the program raise to new heights over the next few years, but we're not arriving early this year, we're continuing a tradition and foundation that was established by Papa Shy.
We'll see how high it can go, but I'm not surprised by the success of our young team this year: I expect it now EVERY season.
