Wow. The guy has been all over the place. Though, I'm unfamiliar with how his defenses have done apart from last year, which it did pretty well in Okie State.

Hmm, I get a 404 error when I click on the link. Probably the company web filter. Can you provide a reader's digest version?

First of all, your link didn't work for me but I was able to find the article here:

http://www.wyosports.net/uw-hires-y...cle_6fb03db6-4319-11e3-9f98-001a4bcf887a.html

Secondly, can anyone explain this:

“The NCAA sets limitations on how many coaches you can have on your staff, and what duties those coaches may be involved in. As a quality control staff member, Bill will be involved in assisting our coaches in analyzing opponents and making suggestions as we develop game plans."

Can we not fire and replace coaches mid year? I get that we are only allowed so many coaches, but since we have fired one what prevents us from hiring another? Didn't Texas do exactly that?

The fact that they are paying Tormey through his contract leads me to think that technically he still counts as a coach, even though he is not coaching with the team. Just how I read into it, not sure if that is true or not.

I am very happy about this hire. This is a "better than Diaz" hire. Glad DC didn't lock into Diaz afterall, and looked around - well done.

$12,000 seems pretty frugal

i mean i would have done it for $6k but i guess this guy has a better resume

That makes sense, but if that is the case, why did we fire him in such a way that we couldn't replace him this season?

I like this hire. Someone with experience. Someon who doesnt have a vested interest in Wyoming (yet)who can come in, voice an opinion, be brutally honest if needs be, maybe offend people and drop hammers where needed. he wont turn the defense around, but i do think this is a good move by the admin.

I would guess that is the amount needed to carry him through the end of the season then he will be hired and put on Payroll as the DC.

Only if DC is here to need a DC. And I am lost as to what that is going to take.

Do you let your failed AD hire the next failure?

I have put together how his defenses have done each year after the teams record when he was a defensive coordinator. I did not include the years he was just a defensive line coach or offensive line coach for example.

Tulsa 1983: 8-3-0 Were Valley Conference champions - Defense gave up 16.8 ppg.
Notable games- Beat San Diego St. 34-9, Lost to Arkansas 17-14, Lost to Oklahoma 28-18,Lost to Oklahoma St. 9-0,Beat Texas Tech 59-20.
They went undefeated in conference play.

1988-1995 Ohio St. defensive coordinator
1988 Went 4-6-1. Defense gave up 23.58 ppg.
1989 Went 8-4. Defense gave up 24.75 ppg.
1990- Went 7-4-1. Defense gave up 18.33 ppg.
1991 Went 8-4. Defense gave up 15.58 ppg.
1992 Went 8-3-1. Defense gave up 13.16 ppg.
1993 Went 10-1-1. Defense gave up 16.08.
1994 Went 9-4. Defense gave up 16.23 ppg.
1995 Went 11-2. Defense gave up 16.92 ppg.

Oklahoma Defensive Coordinator 1996-1997
Went 3-8. Defense gave up 35.63 ppg.

USC Defensive Coordinator 1998-2000

1998 Went 8-5. Defense gave up 18.53 ppg.
1999 Went 7-5. Defense gave up 23.16 ppg.
2000 Went 5-7. Defense gave up 28.08 ppg.

Kansas Defensive Coordinator 2002-2007

2002 Went 2-10. Defense gave up 42.25 ppg.
2003 Went 6-7. Defense gave up 30.46 ppg.
2004 Went 4-7. Defense gave up 21.36 ppg.
2005 Went 7-5. Defense gave up 22 ppg.
2006 Went 6-6. Defense gave up 25.5 ppg.
2007 Went 12-1. Defense gave up 16.38.

Miami Fla. Defensive Coordinator 2008

Went 7-6. Defense gave up 24.15 ppg.

Oklahoma St. Defensive Coordinator 2009-2012

2009 Went 9-4. Defense gave up 21.69 ppg.
2010 Went 11-2. Defense gave up 26.38 ppg.
2011 Went 12-1. Defense gave up 26.76 ppg.
2012 Went 8-5. Defense gave up 28.23 ppg.

So in conclusion he has a way better resume than Tormey did. He has had some pretty good defenses but also some not so good defenses. He did coach in the NFL which gives more experience. Should be an upgrade over Tormey but not really sure it will do a whole lot at this point in the season. Worth a shot though.

This looks to be a great move by the coaching staff. Focus on getting the guys into position, analyze the film and make sure that the defense is doing what they are supposed to be doing. I hope he turns it around, we win out, and he gets hired on staff at the end of the season.

I'm actually pretty excited as to how much attention the coaching staff is giving our defense now. Mediocre just isn't good enough. Keep on trying to do the best thing possible.

I thought it was funny people were saying his D at OSU was good, but as I remembered, OSU got into a lot of track meets.

By OSU, do you mean Ohio State or Oklahoma State? His numbers at Ohio State look pretty good. Okie State not so much, but better than what we have now.
