Pokes Get Another Commitment

CJ Bennett, a QB out of Tampa, Florida has commited to the Cowboys. This is a big get as he is ranked as a three star player by both scout and rivals. He isn't as dangerous as Stratton (the other QB commit from Colorado) with his legs, but at this point he is a more polished QB overall. The level of recruiting has obviously gone way, way up with Christensen in charge. The Pokes just might give some of the "big boys" in the conference a run for their money in a few years.

I think it might be a little concerning that we are tying up so many scholarships in QBs, but clearly an upgrade in recruiting when we are getting a 3-star player from the state of Florida! A few years ago it was a big just to get a 2 star player from Colorado.

Appears that the QB position is taking on a higher priority in recruiting nowadays, eh?

That's what it looks like to me too. So now we have Stratton and CJ Bennett coming in next year and we have Auston Carta Samuels and Robert Benjamin in addition to Sween & Crum (who will be gone next year) this year. The competition for the starting job is going to be high. I expect some WR's next. Christensen and his staff are getting it done on the recruiting end. It may take a couple of years, but I have the feeling UW is going to be competing for the MWC title before too long.

Getting 2 QB's per class is perfectly fine with me. The QB is by far the most important position on the football field, and that statement is magnified 10 times when running the pass first spread offense. A team could be filled with world beaters, but would fall flat on their faces without a good QB in a spread offense. Conversely, I think a good QB surrounded by mediocrity can really carry the team. Before everyone brings up Casey Bramlet in order to prove my last sentence wrong, I would like to point out how different the spread offense is from the offenses we ran with Casey at QB. Secondly, good QB's tend to committ early on in the recruiting process. Of course there is always the exception, but the majority of 5-star, 4-star, and 3-star QB recruits will have committed long before their senior season rolls around. Thus, it behooves coaches to put a strong emphasis on recruiting that position early on in the recruiting period. I fully expect to see a recruiting class with players at every position by the time signing day comes. QB is an urgent need in a spread offense and i'm glad Christensen is getting the caliber of guys he is at QB.

TheRealUW.........I couldn't agree more. If there was ever a position to be overloaded, it is QB. If we could get some high caliber guys to catch the ball next that would be great, as it appears to be our biggest need.

I would also like to point out that Qb's tend to be the best athletes on a team. It is possible that we could be recruiting athletes that DC thinks will fit nicely in his system either at QB, WR, RB, or even on the defensive side of the ball.

The current class is ranked #69 (quit giggling) which is nice to see, if we could finish in the top 60 that would be a definite step in the right direction. the big 3 have been finishing about in 50s for the most part the last several years and now they are starting to go even lower. I think BYU is currently ranked 13. We are a long way from February but I hope this staff can keep up the good work.

Been following this kid for awhile. He lights it up each time. A post on another thread said Chase Daniels was brought in to recruit him. When he gets to camp the QB competition will be over. Watch his hilite film, he gets the ball off quicker than anyone in the country. Great pick up now all we need is some of that Florida talent at WR.
