Just for the heck of it, I thought we would take a look at where some former Pokes have ended up and what type of impact they look to have this season:
1. Shakir Smith - Now at D2 Adams State (after a stint at JUCO in Arizona), his team played UNM in an exhibition tonight. He scored 21 as they played UNM semi-close (62-50).
Exhibitions are weird, but I think Smith is probably a guy with legitimate D1 (maybe even MWC level) talent that screwed it up off the court ( he averaged 29 ppg against weak JC competition as well).
2. Lekan Ajayi - Still at Eastern Michigan after stints at FIU, and Collin County Community College. Didn't have much impact next year. They haven't played yet, but I doubt he has a serious impact. Bad team, crappy conference, etc. Not much of a loss for the Pokes.
3. Tyrone Marshall - At CSU-Pueblo, D2 RMAC school. Looks like he will be a starter for them this year. He had 14 pts in their exhibition opener. I think he could have developed into a contributor for the Pokes. Just wasn't willing to be patient and put in the work.
4. Keonta Vernon - Playing at CSI (JC). They have played a couple of joke games against Prep Schools, but he is averaging 14.5 ppg/9 rpg.
It will be interesting to see what happens with Diontae Jones. He could transfer to another D1 or go the JC route at semester.
