It doesn't make much sense anymore to go to a bowl. You have coaching staffs in flux, players entering the portal, and players refusing to play to avoid injury before the draft. Pretty senseless, the fans are the only ones that seem to care about going to a bowl game.
The fans are ones who basically finance the program and are the main reason the bowls existed. I tend to agree that they will fade away over time as the restructuring of college football into 2 or 3 super conferences and some tiers below them.
