Pittser to transfer

I'm thinking this might be a headline we'll be reading at the end of the season, or sooner. Smith was a very pleasant surprise Saturday night and I believe he will improve each week. It was a good thing that we played Weber and now Texas State before we move up to our proper level of competition. Each week the speed of out opponents defense will improve so Smith can work his way into it and not freeze once he faces Nebraska. If it works out this way, what's Pittser to do? I was assuming that we'd be splitting time at QB as we did at the start of last season. Pittser hasn't really gotten a chance to show what he might be able to do. And if Smith doesn't get hurt or throw a dozen picks, he may not see the field. Don't get me wrong, I say good for Smith to get in early and step up with the chances he was given. If there were two camps, I've been in the Smith camp. But I can't see how a highly rated QB (Rivals, Elite 11, etc.) will be able to sit there and watch from the sideline.

Holy misleading headline, Batman!

Why on Earth would Pittser transfer? He's redshirting this year, he'll be behind a JUCO guy next year, assuming he doesn't move up and take his spot once he develops, and could probably challenge for the starting spot next year or the year after, and setup to take over this team as a senior.

TITLE of this thread was very misleading. I was kinda freaked out when i saw the title like I had just seen a ghost haha

Yikes.....there are some newspapers who need to hire you. That title will get just about every WyoNationer to read this thread.

Way too early to pass judgment. wyokie could have put up 35 points on WSU's horrendous defense. Far from impressive......Lets wait a few games before dubbing Smith the future. I wouldn't count Pittser out just yet.

DUDE, negative speculative threads like this do not help the program. From your history I do not think you are a troll and you are an actual fan, so I will just say from now on think before you post. If a thread only has the potential to hurt the program or put negative thoughts out there don't do it. Think before you post. Why would you start a thread that could only hurt the team you root for? I think Pittser has a bright future at UW, he just barely got here and soon could work himself to just being one play away from going in. If he redshirts he could still be just one play away from becoming a 4 year starter next year. Things happen fast, kids transfer, get ill, get injured etc, us uw fans should know this well. I think we are way too thin at qb for anyone to bring up a topic like this. Com'n man, think before you post.

Douche bag post by a attention whore :stupid: :finger:
Sorry Zappin, I guess you thought someone scooped you on a QB story. After all that seems to be your specialty on this forum, ACS to CU, Emory Miller Gone, QB starter officially announced, ACS-Smoltz tweets he ended up at Vandy, etc.

My thoughts, and I usually do put a little into my posts, is that I'm slightly worried that our coaches, who you yourself stated that they "SUX", might not be giving Pittser a fair chance. Every other QB that has come in has left and something like this might be part of the problem. I thought it was behind us with Arroyo leaving, but maybe it wasn't all him. It's really hard to leap past a starting QB without an injury and as they are the same year I could see from Pittser's view that not running with the one's in scrimmages and not taking snaps against FCS opponents might be the writing on the wall.

I started a new topic because I just couldn't get excited about the thread about no hot chocolate at the game where I learned about food waste being a part of the business in food service. Are you kidding me? After months of build up and our first game this is what some bozos are discussing!

Other posters talk about anything on this forum stating they're sick of this inept team, or we may as well be ready for the WAC, our D is horrible etc... So, I didn't think something like this would be taboo. During the game I was wondering what goes through a back up QB or kicker's mind. All other positions run the number two's (and three's) out there at least some of the time, even if it's only special teams. But these guys are either playing or watching. I figured I'd start a post. Maybe all kinds of things happen at practice that we're not allowed to see, but what we see in the scrimmages appears that Pittser didn't get a fair shake. Williams way out performed Sullivan, yet wasn't announced as the starting place kicker. I made the post about Pittser because he was a highly regarded recruit and Williams was a walk on, so his options are limited.

Fullback is right that I should be careful how I address things. For instance after seeing some responses the title line shouldn't have been so provocative. But if you want to read about hot chocolate, then please, enjoy yourself. Simply bypass my posts.

Cowboyz,

Pittser will end up getting his fair shot. With Coach Dave all of the positions are always up for battle and starting spots can be gained. The fact that you didn't see Pittser get any reps against the FCS opponent this weekend was more to do with the fact that they are red-shirting Pittser this year to give him more time to grow in the program and get him more comfortable, which is a great idea and will definitely make him ready for next year.
You will see him given ample opportunity to compete for the starting job next year. If Smith did get hurt and Pittser shows in practice that he is a better choice than Captain Kirk then you would for sure see Pittser in the game this year.

I think this ship has sailed for the time being. Maybe the topic can be revisited when the situation merits it more applicable. Meanwhile, I'll continue to enjoy watching our starting QB.

Pittser will benefit from the red shirt year, no doubt.. it seemed pretty obvious that Smith had the upper hand throughout camp, mostly due to his being in Laramie 6 or 7 months longer than Pittser. But as someone said above, all positions are open competitions when spring/fall camps roll around.

forgive me but i've never been all that up to speed on redshirting...at this point, since adam has been redshirted, if somehow he ended up playing...say, next week...would he lose his red shirt all together or would this just count then as an eligible season allowing him to use his redshirt another year?

He would lose the redshirt for this year, but still have it to use for future years.

As McP said, a player can use his red shirt in the future. The rule used to be, and maybe it still, that you're considered a red shirt if you play less than 10% of eligible games. If that's still the case one game might not burn the chance to red shirt in the future. Where it gets tricky is once you do start playing the 5 year clock starts ticking, which means you now have to finish your college career in the next 5 years, whether you transfer, get injured, not play, etc. You can request an exemption as Houston's 6th year QB has done for this year, but there's no guarantee the NCAA will okay it. I think Houston's QB used an injury as his reason.

I love it. You're already calling Pittser a quitter because the qb with a 8 month head start went 27-42 with 3 touchdowns and only one pick in his first college start. I have a feeling that Pittser isn't ready to quit, doesn't at all feel slighted by Brett starting ahead of him right now, and feels like he can win the starting spot when he catches up mentally.

You've got to be a CSU/BYU fan to label one of our qb's a quitter before he's even been on campus 6 months.
