Pig Tail?

Not wanting to research tiebreakers for the piggie tail game, and not having a lot of confidence in our ability to beat CSU (heart says yes, head says no)...if Fresno and WYO both end up with the same conference record, who goes to the pigtail? What if WYO, Fresno and Nevada end with identical records?

This is the first time I have ever decided to go to the MWC Tourney in Vegas...and don't show up until Wednesday because of my work. Just my luck.

Here are the guidelines below. So if Wyoming and Fresno St. both lose next week and end up tied then Fresno St. would win the tie breaker. Both teams split during the year so the next thing the league looks at is how you did against the top opponents in the league starting at the top and working your way down until one team has an advantage. Both teams lost to New Mexico twice and both teams lost to CSU twice so then UNLV is next. Fresno St. beat UNLV one time and Wyoming lost twice so therefore Fresno St. wins the tie breaker. Only way for Wyoming to stay out of the pigtail game now is to beat CSU. If we do beat CSU we get the grand prize of playing UNLV again in the first round of the tournament most likely.

Two-Way Tie: If two teams tie for a position, and one holds a win-loss advantage during regular season play, that team receives the higher seed. If the two teams split their games during the regular season, each tied team's record shall be compared against the team occupying the highest position in the standings, continuing down through the standings until one team gains the advantage, thereby gaining the higher seed. If two teams remain tied after all tie breakers have been exhausted, the last tie-breaker when determining seeds for the MWC Basketball Championships shall be team RPI, as determined by the most recent NCAA RPI available on Saturday.

Ties Between Three or More Teams: If three or more teams tie for a position, the combined record of each of the tied teams against the other teams involved in the tie shall be compared until an advantage is gained. If the multiple tie still exists, each of the tied teams' records against the team occupying the highest position in the standings shall be compared, continuing down through the standings until the tie is reduced to a two-team tie, at which time the procedure shall revert to the two-way tie-breaking procedure, until the tie is broken. If teams remain tied after all tie-breakers have been exhausted, the last tie-breaker when determining seeds for the MWC Basketball Championships shall be RPI, as determined by the most recent NCAA RPI available on Saturday.

Actually there is one other way for Wyoming to stay out of the pig tail game even if they lose to CSU. That is for there to be a 3 way tie with Fresno St. and Nevada. In that scenario then Wyoming would win the tie breaker over the other 2 because they beat Nevada twice while Fresno and Nevada split. So we can hope that Nevada wins one of their last two games against either New Mexico or CSU which is probably unlikely.

I will give them a slight pass over Schroyer with the loss of Martinez and injuries this year. (Plus, Shy hasn't lost to a culinary school...) But it is pretty bad. I just want to know which sports god I irritated...I am truly sorry and I repent of whatever transgressions I might have perpetuated. If there are separate gods for football and basketball, I am equally sorry to each. IF my confession and repentance doesn't work and my sin is too great to be forgiven, for the good of Pokenation, I say, "It's great, to be, a CSU RAM...I say it's great, to be a CSU RAM!"

You are dead to me.

Note that I said, if I could not be forgiven, I would take one for the team and transfer the Gods' hate to CSewe...so as to not besmirch my beloved Pokes going forward. I am willing to see if the forgiveness comes through....for say, 50 years of so.

Crazy to think the team that's beginning to sweat right now is San Diego State. No longer a sure thing they go dancing.

Bottom line....in January everyone figured that coveted 5th spot would be between Boise and Wyoming. The Broncos proved to be the better team.....and then Michael Lyons came out of nowhere. This left UW to mess around in the cellar with Fresno/Nevada. This season was loaded with tough MWC teams. Only Boise has an abundance of youth, the other 4 top teams will have some replacing to do next season. The opportunity to move up in the standings will be there next season, overall Shyatt just got unlucky. Unusually veteran MWC + injuries/off-the-court incidents = death sentence.

How many seniors does New Mexico graduate? I had it in my mind that they mainly had Juniors...but am probably wrong.

You are correct. Just looked, all the important guys come back. They'll be the clear #1 next season. 2014-2015? Potential rebuilding year (for UNM's standards anyway).

New Mexico's program is at the point they don't rebuild. They are good year in, year out. Meanwhile we start Riley Grabau.

Riley's made 4 3's in 2 straight road games. I wouldn't write him off too quick. Meanwhile, our point guard has gone 2-14, 0-11, and 2-13 with 4 turnovers in our last 3 games. Don't tell me we don't have anyone on the bench who could do as well or maybe even better.

There has been 3 or 4 games where he was hot and kept us in it but man those last 3 games are terrible. 4-38 from the field. It can be good sometimes to keep shooting and not lose confidence but there is also a point where you need to hold off and not shoot your team out of the game and that is what he has done the past 3 games. Not all his fault but you start wasting possessions at some point. Same goes for Washington shooting the 3 ball. We went from having a team to having a couple of guys that seem to be more worried about themselves lately.

Well I just kinda want all the losing to be done.
I think we lose our next two games, and win 1 or 2 in the CBI. If we play the same type of teams we played in OOC play, and play that same type of ball we can win the CBI. And that is as long as we aren't playing "real" teams. Teams like ND State and Southern. There are only a handful of teams from big conferences we can play.
Anyone wanna bet Ill.St. would cream us if we played them again?

If I have 1 problem with Shyatt, this is it. Why should the other 4 guys on offense work to get the ball when your point guard dribbles around and then shoots from the 3 point line? Since I can't find conference stats, I don't know this for sure: but I would guess that Gilmore has shot the ball more than anyone else, including Washington. I don't blame Gilmore. He's just doing what he's being told to do or allowed to do. But the offense just grinds to a standstill when he starts dribbling around looking for his shot. I'm wondering if Washington is frustrated to the point where he has decided that he's going to shoot instead of passing the ball back out to Gilmore.

Fresno won't win another game, we should play CSU well and potentially beat them as well
Not all that crazy....CSU will keep their #2 bid, but they have been straight up exposed as of late.

Honestly if things go right for us and that is a IF there like Washington playing like he can and us having a ref crew that actually calls fouls against the Rams then I think it will be a close game against them Wednesday where either team can win, and I think that if it is like that we could win it because we will want it more. I see it either being a blowout loss or a possible victory for us which one is hard to say. If we did win we would get UNLV and I don't see us winning that one at all. Then we play in the CBI maybe win one or two depending on matchups.

looks like the course we're on, and may not be a bad thing, we'll see what happens with Fresno this weekend against UNLV
