Philosophy professors' take on Howdy Doody gate

I like those guys.

"In terms of what this says about his program, the message is rather clear: “I cannot tolerate cheaters” (or “I cannot f---- — tolerate f---- — cheaters”). For the university administration, the message appears to be: “We do not countenance verbal abuse—at least when it’s made public.”

They are saying exactly what I have been the whole time about weak-kneed administrators at our beloved U of W. I have to wonder if Buchanan has checked out with his retirement announced, and didn't exert any control over this situation, and just let Burman dangle.

This begs the question: If DC had said exactly the same thing, in exactly the same way, but without the f-bomb, what would people be saying? I bet the entire discussion would be different, focused more on what a bad@ss DC is for standing up for his team.
 
Yep, people instead want to berate DC for calling Calhoun out (granted, in one of the worst ways possible) instead of the whole picture.
 
So I am agreeing with philosophy professors and disagreeing with our athletic director. Wow. Sort of tells you something when philosophy professors come to the defense of the football coach and the AD does not.
 
Well written and I think most Cowboy fans would agree with the sentiment in the article. I sure do.

However, in this day and age,a Division 1 head coach absolutely has to have media awareness/savy. The general public, outside of the hardcore fans, are only going to see the video and care how it portrays our head coach. The parents of potential recruits are going to base a lot of their impression of our HC on the video; they will not take the time to strictly scrutinize the situation such as we have and such as the authors of the article have.

Overall, I am glad it was published. I find it to be well written. I don't think it will have much effect at all on the outside public's perception of DC's rant and the situation.
 
I am the proud holder of a BA in Philosophy from UW. These professors are after my time but they are alright in my book.

I think the majority of us on the board feel exactly how this writer was able to convey those feelings properly or at least I do.
 
At least DC has an article by a third party, that he could share with recruits if asked about the topic. He can say his usual, it was wrong and im sorry, but just read this, and still make the point that he was right, without sounding like a guy defending his actions.
 
Someone should post this on the MWC Board. Then just sit back and watch the Zoomies go bat-shit-crazy for the implied accusations.

More like AFADad. There's only ever been a handful of zoomies on there, but him and Coastie (RIP) were the ones that posted the most.
