Petersen to Washington

So you think that we will never be able to get elite assistants unless it's a Larry Shyatt-Duncan situation?

If we had money to pay a top assistant to come here to be a coach in waiting, do you think it would work?

I think there is a possibility of this happening (or similar) at UW for football - but my confidence in that happening, under the direction of Tom Burman, are nil. In fact, if there were such a thing as a negative percent, that is what & where I would be.

It would take money and a measure of success to bring in top assistants with a new HC. Something like Boise.

Imagine the Boise St nation crying in their oatmeal this morning, I forsee this being the decline of the mighty Broncos upcoming

The guy has been so loyal to that program he has turned down many offers I hope we find someone like that and soon.

Well, not turning down anymore offers as of this morning.

Major question for BSU now; can they continue to win without Peterson? Especially like that have been for so long?

maybe our new hire will out trump their's and we'll have a chance to win the Mountain division for a change, lol...hey it's nice to dream!!!

Well, DC, to his credit, did leave us with an excellent QB, good recievers, and some very promising RBs. The defense has shown flashes of being decent. The only place the new coach will have to really do something about immediatly is either recruit better linemen, or coach the ones we have up to a respectable level.

According to coachingsearch.com
Boise State is going to allow Chris Petersen to move on and not coach the Broncos' during their bowl game. This makes a lot of sense.

Yeah, having a HC try and coach them during a bowl game when he'll be leaving right after is porbably not the best thing for anyone.

I pretty much called the move, and took major s--t from BSU fans. Nonetheless, it looks as if it won't really affect our search...
Except- except when one looks at the contrast between us and BSU. There was no search for BSU's HC- they already had the play in. Compare that to us- it wasn't like Burman couldn't see Christensen's firing coming. Why wasn't he already laying the groundwork with a candidate like Tedford as well as plans b and c?

I just don't think this guy has a full and competent grasp of the execution of the role he's supposed to play...

I think he had Tedford in mind for a while. Plans B and C though? Idk.
Bob Kustra went way beyond "in mind". The play was on the field. This agreement was already out there.

The situations are very different the coach BSU is going after had been a long time assistant with them in the past. Much easier to have an agreement or handshake in place. You want our AD going behind our current coaches back to make a deal with another coach that is going to be fired? What kind of confidence does that instill in the coach you are hiring? Not good business or a good way to start a relationship.
Sorry, but that's the reality of business at a highly competitive level. Quiet maneuvering behind the scenes with big boys who don't let hurt feelings or insecurities cloud their sense of direction. Christensen's termination was about as big a surprise as Mandela dying- Burman should've had the feelers out after the CSU game at the latest.

Should have, yes. Smart enough to, no.

I am surprised that nobody is mentioning the fact that DC could have (and in some circles should have) been terminated after the Howdy Doody episode. And looking back, it makes sense - financially that was probably a million-dollar whoopsie. BUT, I don't think DC should have been let go at that time personally - I actually enjoyed the attention and fact he was that fired up and passionate - something we have never seen from Tom Burman.

Petersen, however, will need a new formula in the Pac-12. There are no Wyomings, New Mexicos or Colorado States in his new conference, which is as deep in quality players, coaches and teams as it has ever been.

FU Ted Miller

but probably deserved.

No Wyomings, New Mexicos or CSU's but they do have 5-7 Utah, 4-8 Colorado and 1-11 Cal. So he should feel right at home in the PAC 12

I more so meant, he has done everything he could in Boise and he deserves to move on.
