Petersen to Washington

Everyone is reporting that Washington's AD is in Boise interviewing Chris Petersen. Would it be good or bad for Wyoming if he leaves?

Reports earlier that he turned it down already.

But, I don't know what it means for Wyo.
If Boise "steals" a potential GOOD coach away from us in the hiring process, then it is bad, if Wyo gets Tedford or Gilmore and Boise doesn't, then it's great for Wyo, and good for everyone else in the MWC.

We might be seeing the end of Boise State as we know them. But then again, they might elevate their program to even higher levels like they did after Hawkins left Boise.

I don't think it affects Wyoming in the coaching carousel much, if that's what you're asking. If Tedford is our first pick, DeRuyter isn't likely to leave Fresno for Boise (leaving a more attractive job for Tedford). Also, I think Boise won't be looking at the same candidates as us, they'll either promote from within or outspend us for a bigger name. I suppose it's possible Tedford goes there but I don't know if he's what they're looking for.

It seems Peterson is interviewing tomorrow for the Washington job. How reliable it is, not sure, but according to a solid BSU poster on the MWC board, the guy thats saying it does work in the Athletic Department there.

The Boise beat writer is reporting that the Washington AD was in Boise and just left without Petersen. I'm sure it will move quick one way or another.

Per Joe Schad....

Chris Petersen expected to be named Washington head coach today. Will be one of highest paid in PAC-12.

6:53am - 6 Dec 13

Maybe Dave Christensen will be hired as the BSU head coach and run them into the ground also... hey we can all dream can't we!

Reliable sources on Twitter reporting that Boise will hire Bryan Harsin from Arkansas State if Peterson does in fact leave. Harsin was on Brad and I's list for Wyoming. Harsin was at Boise for 9 years before going to Texas and Arkansas State.

Good for Wyoming but maybe bad for the MW.

A coach of his caliber leaving gives us a better chance but also less exposure for the conference.

I pretty much called the move, and took major s--t from BSU fans. Nonetheless, it looks as if it won't really affect our search...
Except- except when one looks at the contrast between us and BSU. There was no search for BSU's HC- they already had the play in. Compare that to us- it wasn't like Burman couldn't see Christensen's firing coming. Why wasn't he already laying the groundwork with a candidate like Tedford as well as plans b and c?

I just don't think this guy has a full and competent grasp of the execution of the role he's supposed to play...

I think he had Tedford in mind for a while. Plans B and C though? Idk.

Bob Kustra went way beyond "in mind". The play was on the field. This agreement was already out there.

The situations are very different the coach BSU is going after had been a long time assistant with them in the past. Much easier to have an agreement or handshake in place. You want our AD going behind our current coaches back to make a deal with another coach that is going to be fired? What kind of confidence does that instill in the coach you are hiring? Not good business or a good way to start a relationship.

I don't think so...I think one of the former assistants will "come home". Pease, Harsin, Wilcox.

Place your bets! My money is on Wilcox.

McPeachy, what do you think the chances of Tedford using his Pac12 connections to come to Wyo with Wilcox as our DC?
Maybe kind of a "coach in waiting" thing.

I understand we will probably never get lucky the way we did with Duncan leaving his position at UCLA for the same position here in Wyo, but do you think if there is kind of a "under the table" handshake with Tedford telling Wilcox "Look, I am only going to be here for 3 seasons then back to a BCS job, you be the DC here for that time and the job is yours".
I don't know if that's just wishful thinking, or if there is a realistic chance that could happen.
