I looked back to the self-hiring in 1986. AD Paul Roach. His HC salary (for the most part) was used for paying the assistants. A huge part of his success was because of his staff & budget (although he certainly knew what he was doing and was qualified). He did it in Laramie...and Wyoming rallied around him & his staff. The next HC at Wyoming needs to be that splash, and he needs to take the position, contingent on major salary increases for the staff, and recruiting budget.

Roach also became the AD and retired here. He was also part of Lloyd Eaton's staff during his era here. Roach was basically the "Shyatt" hire of the time. We needed a guy who wanted to be here after the team had struggled for so long, and a guy that knew what he was doing. We struck gold with him. Not saying we can't do it again, but this sort of thing is rarely easy to do and finding THE guy is very hard and impossible to really know until he's had a couple of seasons.
