Pathetic Play Calling

It looks like we went back to the Glenn era this game. It looks to me like the coaches called this game with the hope of not losing 55-0. Well I got news for you coaches, the fans don't like losing 55-10 or 65-10 any more then 55-0. The fact that our team can get one offensive field goal from the 6 inch line is not impressive.

What does it take to get a pass play on 1st or 2nd down before the 11 minute mark of the 3rd quarter. I don't recall a single pass on 1st down in the 1st half, and I think there was only 1 pass on a 2nd down in the first half. A monkey could have called the TCU defense when we run up the middle every first and second down the entire 1st half. Not even a run to the outside but up the middle for 3 or less yards every first and second down. Coaches, take a note from the one drive where we actually had a first down, THROW THE DAMN BALL.

Drop back to pass and let Jerry Hughes go against our O-Line? No thanks. I think the Pokes gave about as good a effort as could be expected. I think TCU is the best team in the country.

I thought it was very obvious we are playing things close to the vest to get ready for next weekend.

Its painfully obvious we aren't on the level of TCU, why run head-first into a brick wall?

Why do you think ACS came out so early? We have to pick our battles and I don't think this was the right one to put up our last stand. Better save everything for the sheep.

Why do you keep being a fan? Just for fun I looked at your posts for the season and about 75% of them involve the word PATHETIC. Always looking for the first opportunity to criticize the team, the coach or the AD.

What were you expecting? TCU is the best team in the country. We aren't on their level right now. We put up a fight against them, but they are VERY good.

Take a look at the bigger picture. If you were expecting a huge win today or something, get real. The team is improving a lot, why don't you ever take notice of any of that. I know its tough to see on a day like today, but we are a much better team.

I completely agree with calpoke, there's no way we could have been successful through the air without having a run game. It was painfully obvious that they had our number whenever we tried airing it DESPITE all the run plays. I applaud DC for not risking ACS' health out there when losing him would be catastrophic for Friday's game.

Yeah it would have really sucked with 6 minutes left in the 2nd quarter and we were tied 10-10 to do more then run 3 straight plays up the middle for 5 yards and punt to TCU giving them 2 scores in the last 6 minutes. Moral victories suck. To me this loss is just as bad as losing 55-0 to BYU since we didn't even try when we could have.

What is there left to play close to the vest. CSU can see game tape for the entire season. They know our biggest weapon is ACS, they know he is dangerous outside the pocket, they know we are good at 4th quarter comebacks, they know our best recievers, and they know our favorite plays. If we have plays in our playbook that we haven't used then I question where those plays were against Utah or AFA when we could have used them.

As far as Hughes I believe he played on the team 2 years ago when we beat TCU in Laramie. Maybe we should have just lied down against TCU because there defense is so big and scary, OH WAIT our playcalling basically did. So yeah I would have rather us tried some stuff against TCU, we were in the game and did nothing count me in as one who doesn't sacrafice one game for another. And it is crap if we weren't calling plays because we think we will be more suprising for CSU, that works when CSU is the 2nd game in the season not the 12th, they have plenty of game film to go on.

Oh bringing out the fan smack and yet I bet I have been to more games this season then you have, as I travel to away games and make all the home games. Count me in as one who doesn't want to lie down to other teams. No I didnt expect a win but I did expect us to try, which the defense did but the playcalling for the offense did not seem to try to. Why is it against Texas we are willing to try different plays, but against TCU we don't throw a pass on 1st or 2nd down till the 3rd quarter. I enjoyed the Texas game because we tried to win that game, this game we looked like we lost before we even started.

You are one of those fans who think just cause you attend every home game and all away games and donate $100 a year to Cowboy Joe that entitles you to some special opinion or makes you a better fan. I never missed a single home game when living in Wyoming (born and raised)and plan to move back in the future. Currently I live in LA and am going to grad school. I can't afford to attend every game. Would I if I had the money? Yes. Does that make me less of a fan than you? I guess it does according to you.

I'm tired of listening to fans like you who are just looking for the first opportunity to criticize everything about UW athletics, head coach, players, AD. The first bump in the road and you're calling for people's heads and ready to jump ship. Either get real and look at the bigger picture with this team or go back to GWG with all your old buddies so you guys can sit around in a circle and complain about everything wrong with Wyoming while still calling yourself fans.

I don't know how many of you realize how good TCU really is, how strong TCU really is, and how FREAKING FAST TCU really is. Running out the clock and keeping the game close for as long as we could was our only chance to win this game......obviously that didn't work out.

If we came out throwing the ball on 1st and 2nd down every possession we had in the first half, it would have been even uglier. We had a game plan going in, it was the right game plan to give us a chance, and it fell apart due to big plays. Our play calling had nothing to do with fumbling in our own territory, and giving up a kickoff return for touchdown.

NONE of us came into this game thinking we were going to win and we would have been foolish if we had. We had a MASSIVE talent disadvantage and had to do what gave us a chance. When you're outmanned with talent as much as we were, the last thing you try to do is toss the ball around like you're Texas Tech, it makes no sense.

Funny, and yet you brought up the fan thing first, feeling you are better fan because you don't criticize the team. Yay for you. Sorry if I don't think our team should bend over for TCU, I would have at least liked to have seen the effort that we had for Texas but that wasn't the case. How come we at least couldn't call the plays we have used this season even if we are "saving" something for CSU? We reverted back to week one of the season, where we hadn't gotten into the playbook. We were not even trying some of our usual plays we used in the past few weeks and instead went with total run and the rare pass.

Everyone has something to criticize. I thought we should've went for it on 4th and goal. Oh well we didn't I don't think it would have been that different. I'm not going to go on a huge rant about it because it doesn't help anybody.

Everyone has their right to criticize, but as I said earlier, looking over most of your posts, they are always negative. You never seem to have anything positive to say about anything. I get sick of it. All you do is criticize.

Look at the above post, I don't think you understand how good TCU is. The juice said it very well. It's not about "lying down" for TCU, its the fact that they are that much better than us and if you don't understand it, you're going to go 3 and out throwing the ball ever down, using no clock, extending the game and givings TCU more chances to beat you. You increase the total number of plays runs.

When playing a team who is that much better than you, you have to shorten the game, shorten the total # of plays run. The more plays you run, the more chances you have for their huge talent to win out.

Not sure what you are talking about, we never punted when it was 10-10. We kicked off after scoring the 10-10 defensive TD, and they returned it for a touchdown on the kick return. Then we ran, ran, and threw incomplete (where we probably should've had a pass interference called because it would have been caught if their guy hadn't been on Bolling (I think?) early, and they scored right away after we punted for a touchback and they went 80 yards on 6 plays.

I don't think you realize just how good TCU is. I think they'd beat Texas by 10 on neutral ground, and they'd probably beat Alabama too. Florida is the only team in the nation that I think would truly best them on neutral ground.

The play calling was very conservative but I agree that it probably gave us the best chance to win. Thats what we are trying to do right? I wanted to see more downfield passes, but our receivers were so much slower than TCU's secondary as was shown everytime we did try to open it up a bit.

We aren't on TCU's level and not even close. We knew that before the game. Honestly, I think TCU is better than Texas. That is one very solid defense!

I thought the play calling was horrible as well. Some of the decisions the coaching staff made in this game completely baffled me. I'll comment more on all this later once I sober up a little :)

Just an FYI ...Wyoming was never tied up at 10-10 with the ball so I am not sure what you mean by running it up the middle on 3 straight plays. As soon as Wyoming tied it up at 10 TCU ran the kick off back to go up 17-10.

DC was running the ball to shorten the game up to try and keep the score down and give us a better chance even though we never had one in the first place. Not sure whats up with some of you fans bitching so much... Wyoming was never going to win this game so I am not sure what everyone wanted. TCU is damn good and we are lucky they called off the dogs.

I listened to Tcu's post game and Patterson was saying how his players didn't even want to come up and play this game ...we should be happy the score wasn't worse , which it would have been had DC been slinging the ball all over the field. I thought DC's game plan was fine considering who we were playing.

Wyoming just needs to concentrate on CSU and win and go to a bowl game which is far more than most of the Wyoming fans predicted anyways but yet they still want to complain even though they never predicted a bowl game for us in the 1st place. Doesn't make sense to me.

Great post. This is the best part.

TCU linebackers were 6 - 8 yards off the ball daring us to run. They were taking away the short passing game and we had to run to win the game. Oline could not blow the holes and their LB speed was very impressive in coming up on the run.

Players needed to execute. Running was the only way we were going anywhere. You take what the D gives u and the only thing they were giving us was the run and we could not do it.

Kudos to TCU.. Speed was impressive

I agree with Calpoke and Seattlecowboy. I am glad that we won't have a dozen players spending the next 3 days in the tub and packed in ice when they need to be practicing. We have a critical and very winnable game Friday, not only for the boot, but to become bowl elligible. I'm proud of the way the team is playing and I have higher expectations next year and for years to come.
