There were a couple things that drove me nuts at the AF game that I noticed again when I watched a replay. First of all, on our kickoff after our FG that tied the game, AF didn't field the ball. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't a kickoff a live ball? The refs blew the play dead as the ball crossed the goal line. We could have covered that ball in the endzone for a TD.
I also got mad that the refs stopped the clock on the final drive when Jalen Claiborne caught the ball and went down in-bounds. He slid out of bounds, but his knees and ass were on the ground as he did so. I thought they were just stopping the clock to move the chains, but they treated it as though he was out of bounds.
Of course it was frustrating when the refs stopped the quick snap on the 4th down play.
Anyway, do I have a misunderstanding of the rules here? I think I remember Wyoming scoring a touchdown on Utah State a few years back when they didn't cover a kickoff in the endzone. Why were the refs stopping the clock? We could have scored with 20 seconds left (or less if Wick didn't get taken out of bounds on 1st and goal).
