1. Starting a true freshman at guard, moving Roullier to Center. Starting a RS Freshman should be rare, never mind a true one...this move is plugging a whole. Rush may be great in the future, but this is not good.

Since people are so obsessed with weight/strength around here, Gavin Rush is one case where that isn't a problem. He already comes in at over 300 lbs....only four linemen on the two-deep are heavier and three of them are starting.

My concern on this point isn't his size...just not a position you want a true freshman in. Also shows a huge lack of depth. Having him next to and learning from Roullier should help a lot.

This ^. Bodes well for the future, but then we will be replacing Rollier.

Or behind Appleby you have RFr Ghaifan; recruited at 255, is sitting at 290.

We still have some that are undersized, but overall this team has exploded with size and strength.

And if young is not an excuse show me a successful program that has mostly SO, Rfr, and FR starting?
I only remember our WR's on O and Hollister along with Roulier who are upperclassmen on O. On D Appleby, Wacha and May.

Am I missing any other upperclassmen that are listed as starters?

This team is young, but are bigger and more talented. Year by year they will grow together and be better.

Hello Poke fans. So I'm excited for this game. It will be a tough game and will be an upset if Pokes win. But I think they have a decent shot here. NIU is not a good opening road team in general, they lost their last 3 games last year and gave up a lot of rushing yards in them. Wyo offense I think will look good and score. So the big question is defense, can we stop NIU at all? That remains to be seen but Wyoming's defense will almost certainly be better than last year, however thats not saying a lot. So gotta be hopeful. Remember when Virginia came in and they had the best defensive lineman in college and Pokes won.

UNLV went out to NIU last year lost by 8, I think.... 1st game things are always up in the air, for both squads.
I like our chances, ball control with Breezy Hill.
Wick, Tanner, Jake, Hollister....I like the offense. If Josh can limit picks, rely on run we have a shot.
Not with the 10, with the win. Not overly confident, just think Bohl and Co can get it done.

Good point. In retort I offer, if their offense isn't on the field, they can't score points unless we turn the ball over.

I know I like it a lot better than DC's 23 seconds to four and out offense.

Or you keep the ball away from the opposing offense with long drives, and keep their defense on the field. If Wyo's offense is productive and limits our Ds time on the field, our chances of winning games goes up dramatically.

I'm not sure it matters much whether our offense scores quickly or not unless Wyo gets down early and needs to play catch-up.

I'm cautiously optimistic about the D anyway. Not that they will be world beaters, but rather what is hoped to be a much improved secondary, more depth at LB, and hopefully an improved D line will prevent the big plays that killed us the last 2 years.

Defense is important. Even in NDSU's best seasons, they still had a smattering of 24-21 type scores...even against teams they're considered vastly superior to. Clock control and balance is Bohl's method of success.

Look at 2010-2012. If you're looking forward to the day where Bohl's Cowboys are gashing people 49-0 every week, you'll be waiting a long time. That's not how he wins games.

Speaking of overconfidence, there's already a Nebraska fan trolling the Wyoming facebook post about the win, talking about Nebraska winning by 30.

Sure, I don't see our team somehow managing two upsets in a row, but I'm no longer certain that game will be a walk in the park for Huskers.
