Over a mil doesn't get much these days...

At an event last night at UW, I was at a table with some fairly monied folks and during the live auction, several of them asked if they could pool their money to get a defense for the Pokes. I indicated that a defense was not on the sale list...they smiled and said, "oh I don't know." My wife smiled and said, "I bet I could coach our defense if giving up a hundred or so points in two games is the bar." I promptly went to the bar and started to drink...lamenting another lost season for Wyoming football.
I don't see a win the rest of the way. Maybe Hawaii...but even if we beat them, I would guess that we get our heads ripped off in the rest of 'em.

I am not overly excited about a change, but think that it is inevitable. Sure, I want to keep our offensive production - but we could give up 14 points offensively and, with an even serviceable defense, win.

I would guess that there are 12k or so for the Fresneck game...for our big TV game. Won't see another one of those, especially after the 'dogs put 90 on us at home.

I guess over a mil just doesn't buy much these days...except:

I am past anger. I am just sad. I will be at the War for the final two, primarily to pay my respects to a dying program and because I am one of those passionate dopes that just loves being at Poke games. But these clowns are making that awful hard anymore. By clowns, I mean the entire staff and most of the team - and don't give me the "these are 18-22 year old kids" schtick, they are on scholarship, knew what they were signing up for and have had the privilege to wear colors I would have killed to wear if I had only had a lick of talent and done nothing but soiled them publicly. Yeah, they are making grades, but they are supposed to do that, that was part of the deal when they signed their scholarship. No more extra credit for meeting your contract with the University - especially when there is a real question about whether you should have that schollie anyway - yeah, I am looking at you entire defense, offensive line and special teams.

On another note, it is good to see that everything is going to Hoyle with the rest of our athletic programs...losing, middle to lower end of the pack, no championships - not even a semblance of a chance. Glad we have the indoor tennis facility. Glad we are building a new golf and swimming facility. Glad we have the RAC and the IPF. Glad we have shmancey luxury boxes. We were better when we didn't have all of these "recruiting necessities." All of these frills seem to have made us soft. Maybe we need to trade IPF's with CSU, so we have reason to remind our offense that the field is actually 100 yards long...so they don't forget again in the third quarter.

Crap, crap, crap. All I see is crap. And no real excuse. Yeah, it is a bit tough to recruit to Laramie, but have you been to Lubbock, TX, or anywhere in Oklahoma, or Aimes, Iowa, or Albuquerque, or Fresno...plus we have all of these gold plated facilities so you don't have to endure Wyoming much anyway. With the way we have played nearly across the board, it seems that the athletes might have found too much other stuff to do in Laramie outside of focusing on playing safety or cornerback or name any other position in any other sport. Shyatt is figuring it out. Legerski has it down. They get a bit of a pass...the others, not so much.

I am sick of excuses and, well, pretty sad.

And one other thing, after we have evaluated the football and basketball teams...perhaps the CJCC (Cowboy Joe Country Club), ticket prices and the hold-up job for getting tickets might be worth a look. May be worth a couple thousand in attendance going forward, especially considering the product on the field just ain't worth the price. When you run a Dollar Store, you can't put a $10 pricetag on the merchandise.

Forgot to add...Rant over. Polyannas and sunshine pumpers, I am ready for whatever you want to offer to try to shift my disposition.

We all seem to have to put a disclaimer on our rants these days...otherwise the positive police want to take away your CJC membership.

I have a friend who just cancelled his Cowboy Joe Club membership after the past two games. Maybe the club should be thankful for whatever donations it can get at this point. I couldn't agree more with your post. Well said.

I feel like someone should call DFS for child abuse...my poor 6 year old just came up to me with a huge smile and all of his Poke gear on and said, "I think the Cowboys won last night, they were ahead. Did they dad?" I had to tell him the truth...and his face dropped. And now my 3 year old is singing Ragtime Cowboy Joe...if things don't change, I have just set them up for a life of misery and disappointment.
