Our track team

I saw our track team today at csewe. We have some excellent sprinters and middle distance runners. Ricky Faure, a Rock Springs native, is already one of the best 800 meter runners in the country. He's only a freshman. He won his heat today as did several other cowboys and cowgirls.

If you get a chance, go out and see them in person. I guarantee you'll be impressed.

Hopefully he can stay eligible. Word on the street is that one of the reasons he wasn't getting recruited so highly was because his grades were very suspect in high school. Afterall, he was #1 in the country in the 800 meters his senior year.

Would you like to see the stacks of letters he got? Not the greatest grades but he carried a 3.5 this year!

Today was the final day of the MWC track and field championship. Nearly every event was online. Ricky Faure used a great kick in the last 50 meters to go from 3d to 1st and win the 800. Not his fastest race but he looks like he can be a very special runner on a national level for Wyo..

The women's 4 x 400 team finished second. A very good result considering the competition. Erin Kirby (from Evanston) was second in the 400 hurdles and ran a great opening leg in the relay. She has been a very special athlete for Wyoming on the track and the volleyball court - a future hall of famer.

Overall, we have some good middle distance runners but we need some sprinters and a few pole vaulters and high jumpers. That said, this team has been very enjoyable to watch.

Regionals are next week in Austin. Faure had the 18th best time in the country so he is qualified for regionals. I believe Holly Page is qualified in the 10k and Carrie White is in in the 800. There are some others that will be going to regionals as well. A full list will be out soon - if not already.
