Our D line

Our O line didnt even look half the size of the SUU guys and half the time just got thrown right out of the way :tickedoff:

When I was listening to the game online, they said that the UW O line averaged like 270 while the SUU D line averaged 310...or something like that.

Or just hire Joe Glenn as the D Cord?
He was 3-4, not 4-3 though.

Yeah...but if he could recruit the guys on D, and push that 3-4 to where it was a few years ago. Weren't we one of the top Ds in the country (albeit with one of the worst Os)???

I believe we ranked like Mid 20's to 30 a few years back i think it was the 6-6 year without the bowl but i dunno :/

4th best a few years ago. But I don't think he will be coming back to coach for anyone. He has stated he enjoys his semi-retirement.

Our D-line definitely didn't play well last night, but I am more concerned about another postion...linebacker. Outside of Hendricks, our linebackers played HORRIBLY against the run. Muhammad and Lewis were getting eaten alive by SUU's O-line. They just don't have the size or strength to keep big O-lineman off of them. Yeah, they have good speed, but they are damn near worthless against the run.

I was not impressed with those two guys one bit. They were both slow on their reads which gave the offensive lineman time to get good blocking angles on them, and then they were very slow to get off the blocks. When that happens, 5-7 yard runs will occur all day long.

We spent 90% of the night in zone pass coverage. If that's the case, it really isn't that important to have blazing speed at the LB position. Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing Schober and Hendricks on the field at the same time. Put the slower one in the middle and the other at the strong side spot. Texas has recommitted to the run this year, and I'm worried they are going to have a huge day next Saturday if we don't address this problem. Their starting RB is 250 pounds and doesn't go down easy. We better toughen up and learn how to tackle real quick or wins won't come easy.

Gaps are to help spread the field. i wasn't there, but, They probably had something like one and a half or two feet between the O-Line? It spreads the D-Line and Lb's. It is tough to get used too also. If they stick with it, watch this O-line excel every week. (it's a good option) If they change it back to a normal gap, you'd see Offenses like Glenn's where we were mostly up the middle and restricted to certain throws. Give them a little bit on the gaps. I'm glad someone mentioned that, it explains the struggle with running the ball yesterday.
Again if the O-line can figure it out, this will be a very good transition.
