Our 'boys at the Buck.

I heard that during the game certain defensive starters were laughing on the sidelines during our most abysmal performance at home in a long time. This along with certain players showing up afterwards at Buckhorn makes me furious. Folks drive from all over our State to support this team only to have players laugh and party after a performance like that. I dont know if it was the same guys laughing on the sidelines that showed up at the Buck, but one of the guys clowning around was a Captain. Is it any wonder this Defense lacks leadership?

maybe it's cuz they have a "free ride" and hardly any true team leaders reside from the state of Wyoming, where the passion is a bit higher, being from outta state may not mean as more, until once they're gone from good ol UDub.

Maybe this loss is a blessing in disguise. Like many of you pointed out, most of our team (including DC) are not from around here. They haven't been hating CSU for decades like most of us here. DC's experience with the rivalry up to this point was winning it. You don't learn to hate somebody by always beating them. You might be excited you won, but until you feel the agony of defeat, how can you truly gain a passion for a game like this?

So football players at Wyo don't pay attention in class and party on weekends?

Hmmm, that sounds like every single college football player on planet earth.

Doesn't mean it's okay.

One thing I've noticed, is Brett Smith doesn't go out to the buck.
Every time I see Tanner Simpson he has a backpack and is either leaving class or going to class.
These kids I have class with, starters that I won't name, never show up with any school supplies.
Fail the easiest tests in the world, and don't do ANYTHING in class.

I just think it's a joke that the team doesn't seem to care about anything but partying.

It is good to hear my son is going to class! LOL Seriously though Tanner is passionate about his degree. Maybe that is because I am paying for it! LOL He spent all day yesterday in the Library trying to learn Chemistry.. HA HA Beaver if you know of anyone to help him out hook him up would ya?

Haha, Jarhead if you're serious about the chem help, I have a friend who could help him. She knows just about everything ever to do with chemistry. More than Walter White.

I am serious. He has a football tutor but that person is four years out of touch with Beginning Chem students. PM me your friends name and a contact and I will forward it to Tanner.

PS- I love the fact we have some people on this board who are family members of some of the players. Awesome.

I hope they often take what we hacks say with a grain of salt. I never mean to slight these young men trying to play....just these roots run deep for many of us. Hell, I didn't even really go to school at UW. I grew up in Wyoming in a large LDS community in an LDS family. At a young age i saw the damage that came from being a BYU supporter so I convereted to brown and gold when a young boy. I havent looked back since. I went to school at USU. I love USU, but now that they are in the same conf as UW...no question who I root for. These emtions run REAL deep for many of us. So when we hear about dicking off and such (I GET IT...THEY ARE KIDS...blah blah blah), but there is a time and a place. The time and the place is NOT while they are a MIDSEASON battling for a bowl game and possible MWC title. This year, of ALL years was our chance. And we are a stinky hot mess.

I am glad to see some Wyoming kids on the team. I think they take it a little more serious.

Ahhhhh I take it with a grain of salt......I like that we have passionate fans. Bottom line is that everyone on this board wants the best for WYO and that is what is important. My son doesn't take anything for granted he is aware that he must earn everything particularly because he is a walk on and from Wyoming to boot. Sometimes it seems like a tall task to prove that he is not your typically entitled kinda kid. ;-) Having a dad that was a "Jarhead" helps too! LOL

Hold the phone - I'm confused. I heard the rumor that they were out partying the night before the game. Maybe the rumor is wrong - If so, I'm sorry I mentioned it.

wondering if that was the case :tickedoff:

It had to be Saturday night because they are at the hotel with the coaches and the rest of the team on Friday night.

Interesting thread. And I see both sides.

My opinion - it is college, they are 21, let them blow off steam, let them bond.

In 1987 (and 88, and 89), the entire team used to get shit hammered every Thursday night at Mingles & The Gallery. And I thought it was odd, but hell, they were winners, so why not. After the OK State game that year (87) which they lost in a close battle against Thurman Thomas and a bunch of fat douches, they were "seen" out on the town raising hell and having a good time as well. What followed? 9 straight wins and a Holiday bowl bid.

Ah...social media. It is fucking everything up.
Those same guys, however, were never seen out living it up following a straight-up ass-kicking on a Saturday night. 'Course, during that time, those were a rarity...

I have no problem with college kids having a few drinks, especially after getting a beat up earlier in the day. They get very little down time during the fall, so maybe Saturday nights are the only time they can cut loose a little. That's assuming that the team's policy is that they are allowed to do this during the season. It must be allowed, as if it isn't the Buck is a pretty high profile place to break team rules. Hell, after getting tuned up so bad, maybe the coaches encouraged it.

hahahahaha come on... this is ridiculous, they are allowed to have a life outside football. None of them were arrested, no one kicked a dude in the head, nothing. When they are out they're always well behaved. They go out all the time, who cares. It is still college. Until someone gets in trouble give them a break...

LOL what is funny to me is that it is people like this who would provoke a football player (or even a basketball player) and get kicked in the head because they can't keep their opinions to themselves! Bwaaaaa.

I have to disagree. Luke didnt go there that night thinking just hours later he would screw up his life, his teammates, the college and the state's image. I ain't buying it. I am sure his perception is that he was "well-behaved" also.

Drink January-August. But during the season, you avoid trouble at all costs and put in the work you are asked to do. Steer clear of situations of messing up.

"Until someone gets in trouble" is usually too late. Not worth the risk.

You just got humiliated at home where *most* people paid $150 in fuel, lodging and tickets to watch you play. 24,000 fans x $150 is $3.6M dollars. Bull....shit. I ain't buying it. Yes they are still kids, but they are also adults now.

I think i am more mad at the situation than anything. I would probably even be more understanding if the boot was sitting in the locker room in laramie and we just got done beating our rival.

Whatever anymore. I'm just agitated at the whole landscape of Wyo football right now and am looking for any solace.

I sent the message jarhead

This is funny because I taught her in 8th Grade. LOL

Hahaha, that is awesome. She has really stepped up lately and is kicking ass. She is taking like 3 or 4 chem classes this semester and gets A's on all the tests.

I am actually going to be with her later, and can ask her about it, unless you want to since you're the old Mr. Teacher haha.

We also had a player killed stumbling out of a bar and on to the railroad tracks back then. Still think it's a good idea?

First off, I DID NOT say it was a "good idea" in my post. Where did you get that from? Second, they are 21, and they are responsible for their own actions (and lack of actions). DC, Burman, Shyatt, etal are not the player Da Da's...these are big boys, making big boy decisions.

Further, We didn't have a player killed stumbling out of a bar. Unless you consider "stumbling out of a bar" as: Climbing a 10 foot fence, and then trying to jump from one moving train to another moving train, hammered. And there is more to that story as well.

Funny that you assume only 21 year olds are the only ones going to the bar.
Hell there's been recruits in there along with tons of freshman.
