OT: Will Wyoming JC's ever add football?

Is it possible? Been tried?

Forgive me, I'm ignorant of Wyoming Community College Athletic Conference's history.

Football is an expensive sport. Between stadiums, equipment, coaches, and insurance, football is by far the most costly sport a college can sponsor. I imagine that's why the junior colleges in Wyoming don't have football.

No doubt. I have no idea what the budgets are like at these schools? Was wondering if some of the state budget windfall might find it's way down?

Casper College plays a lot of sports, but not football. Hard to play JC football, especially when majority of the JC schools are in California. Would be interesting to see what would happen if they played NAIA/D.III ball.

There's a JuCo in Oklahoma that does play football, Northeastern Oklahoma A & M. The Golden Norsemen. Really good program btw. There's a bunch of other junior colleges here in Oklahoma that doesn't have football.

Don't forget the amount of women's schollys/sports that would need to be added due to Title IX...in sum, not going to happen

I have a lov/hate thing for Title IX. I'm all for athletics for women but football needs to be exempted from that law imho.

I agree. There is no women's sport that eats anywhere close to as many schollys as football. A fair proposal would be to count the amount of schollys similarly to the typical amount offered for women's soccer. (i.e. football only counts as 20 or so as it pertains to Title IX)

LCCC may have the recources (2 campuses with large student populations that continues to grow rapidly).

If it weren't for Title IX, or at least some loophole oofr football, the Wyoming JUCOs would probably have it. I know they have basketball and wrestling at least.

Probably not feasible for WYO but would be interesting. Does Title IX apply to all collegiate athletics? NAIA?

Title IX applies to any school that receives state or federal funding. (does not apply to private institutions but NCAA rules basically require such private schools to follow Title IX if they desire to be NCAA)

I've always thought that the Wyoming JCs could make their own in-state football conference. It would give Wyoming kids more chances to play and perhaps help build a feeder system for UW. Yes, it'd be a bit more expensive, but I think the opportunity for in-state kids would be worth it.

All it would be is high school football again, just different mixes of players. And for the most part, the same players.
WWCC would be made up of Evanston, Green River, and Rock Springs players, with a few Lyman, Mtn. View, Kemmerer and Star Valley kids. LCCC would be Laramie, Cheyenne (East, South, Central) and the smaller areas around. Casper College would be Natrona/Kelly and the surrounding areas.
You get my drift...

I think that would be a boring/terrible idea as it would cost a shit ton of money to do highschool football all over again.
With what, 1 more kid from Wyo getting to play @UW every season?

Hmm... Not worth it in my opinon. not saying you are wrong I just don't see much upside.
Let 'em keep playing volleyball/basketball/golf etc. The cheaper sports. Cuz you know there won't be much money made from Wyo JUCO football

Solution to the high cost of football in JC's: 6-man football! Like in high school. Could also have 6-man(woman) football for the ladies.

Realistic?
They could join the Big East,,
or they could make their own interstate league, add USAFA prep school and Chadron. Call it the Howdy Doody league.

I wouldn't like to see it as it would most likely eat into our fanbase. We don't need anymore local competition on a Saturday whe we're trying to fill the War.

I think you're being a bit short-sighted. The teams wouldn't be all Wyoming kids only the best that weren't quite D1 material and need development. You'd have to recruit adjacent states as well. We might keep those that go off to adjacent states to play lower-level divisions, especially if it increased their chances at getting a scholly at UW. You take the best kids from all Wyoming high schools and they'd be distributed over seven JCs. Look, the chances of it happening are nill, but it would give Wyoming kids more opportunity. And as for drawing from UW attendance, how much do the JC basketball programs affect UW now?

Apples and oranges. College football games are on saturdays, college basketball games are spread out. People further from Laramie don't really travel to Laramie for sporting events unless they are on the weekend.

True. Also if the kids from wyo that go and play every saturday at the juco level, traveling around the state from rock springs to cheyenne to casper to riverton etc etc there will be a lot more parents traveling to see their kids play for another 2 seasons and that will surely put a damper on Wyo football attendance. I'm assuming.

Wyo juco football is a nice thought, would give a lot of these kids a reason to go to college that didn't go. And would be a fun thing to win the coveted Wyo College State Championship, but I just don't see it being that productive.
Who knows though
