OT: UW student killed

I don't know if you guys heard but Laramie got a bit out of control Halloween night.

There was a fight at a house party, and a kid jumped in to break it up, and he got some injuries and as a result from trying to break the fight up ended up dying.
The kid who hit him was arrested and is facing 2nd degree murder charges.

And at roughly the same time at a different house party, there was another fight going on, and the kid ended up in Front Range hospital in critical condition and police are still looking for the suspect. 5'8 to 5'10 Mexican kid. Young 20s I think.

Alcohol fueled stupidity.
Fucking sad.

Sorry if this is a double post and this has been discussed, I haven't been on the interwebs much this weekend.

RIP good dude, trying to be a good person, and paid the ultimate price.

sad, sad, fights really never solve anything, especially when something like this happens, sad night in the Gem City

Makes me wonder, and somewhat question, all the naysayers about the LPD / ACSO / UWPD arresting and ticketing underage drinking in Laramie. Maybe they need to be stricter? Maybe UW needs to be proactive and teach incoming freshman better on when to say when, and everything in moderation?

What a sad event...and how devastated those parents & family must be.

You're probably not wrong. It's a lesson a lot of people could benefit from - not to mention, sometimes what really
needs to happen is that one friend who steps in and says "you probably shouldn't have any more. Here's some water." What often happens instead is that people egg each other on...

Then again... I'm in my mid-thirties, and about 20 years ago I was one of many who didn't know my limits, and who happily cheered people on as they drank way too much. It's easy to say when you're not in that spot anymore.

Whereas most of my friends drank, often to excess, I have never been much of a drinker. Hell, I've never had more than 2 drinks in 1 night, and that's only for special occasions. Their stories of waking up on strange people's yards, or their eyebrows shaved off, or people writing things on their faces are enough of a deterrent for me. Not too mention them having a spotty memory afterwards hen at times, sober, my memory can be pretty bad itself.

But yeah, there needs to be something done in order to prevent more of this stuff from happening. Crack down on underage drinking, have mandatory classes on excessive drinking, something that might help prevent these things.
