OT: The kids who targeted the ref

If I were principal, I'd investigate fully to determine the extent of this type of mentality within the program. If I had a whiff of this type of conduct resonating through the program, I'd cancel the season and fire all coaches.

I agree with this. I am sure there are innocent and good coaches but it appears that there is some serious problems in that program. Just like any other business, management is ultimately responsible.

On a separate note, a kid in TN did a similar thing and was determined to be accidental. Here is the story and video. I'm not sure on that conclusion after watching the video.

It's hard to tell from just that video. His eyes could have been on the ball carrier without any sort of perception as to his surroundings. We would have to assume that the officials/investigators have more information than we do just viewing a video without any other frame of reference. Certainly different from the Texas incident of two players where the intent was clear from the video.

To me, he appears to drop his shoulder and lower his head a good step or two before leveling the ref. Definitely different than the TX incident, but, this doesn't look clearly accidental, either.

Agreed. You can see the kid actually turn his head slightly to the left, and face the ref a couple of steps before he hits him. Then you see him drop his shoulder before contact. With just the video for reference, I would say he knew that ref was there and he pulled the trigger.

Ref's really should wear some protective gear out there. It doesn't matter if it is intentional or not - getting hit by a football player on the field isn't going to feel good.
