OT: The kids who targeted the ref

I don't know who it was on here (Wyovania) that said we needed to start arresting for fights and such. I am starting to agree. Those two should have been arrested on site, in pads, and hauled to jail. Same goes for those starting brawls before/after games when helmets are used. They should be arrested, charged, etc. on site.

A little pushing and shoving during the game is one thing, but the full blown fights are another. Rule of thumb: if it would just get you kicked out of a bar, then personal foul (covers most shit talking, a little shoving, etc.). If the barmaid would have you arrested for it (if you were in a bar), then bring in the boys in blue not the boys in black and white.

yeah that was horrible

*At least make it look like an accident.......I kid I kid

I hope the whole incident is properly investigated first. We know the two players in the defensive backfield targeted the referee simultaneously...so logic says that there was a plan and a discussion beforehand. Was there perhaps other players on the team involved (or even a coach)? If so, I don't believe that the others should be punished any less. Could it have just been two rogue players? Sure, but I actually tend to believe that is the more unlikely case.

Not only should they be kicked off the football team, they should be banned from all sports and extra-curricular activities. I truly hope in was just 2 kids acting alone. The coach apologized to the other coach after the game, and the players' teammates seemed to be taken aback when the ref went down. My guess is that they were saying to each other: "Fuck this ref." "Let's smoke his ass during a play." "It's almost the end of the game. What are they gonna do? Throw us out and miss the rest of this game? Totally worth it."

If I was the ref, I would be thanking these kids. This guy is about to retire. Lawsuit against school district, boy's families, coaches, Texas High School Athletic Assoc. $$$$

They could have broken that guys back, paralyzed him, snapped his neck, they even could have killed him.

Those 2 scumbags should be arrested and thrown in jail.

Then they should be given a serious beating while they're in jail.

My guess is that its just two kids that discussed this immediately prior and did it on their own. However, that there had already been two players ejected earlier indicates to me that this coaching staff has no control over the players. That school administration needs to stick its nose into that football program and find out whats going on. If I was that principal or athletic director I would be at every practice the next couple of weeks and in the locker room to get a feel for whats going on. Not only can that behavior not be tolerated, but I am sure there are good kids on that team. Their opportunity to be a part of a team that is a positive part of their lives is being hijacked by idiots and the coaches don't seem able or inclined to fix it.

I doubt it is the slam dunk that you may be inclined to believe. I don't know Texas law, but this would probably be a tough case in Wyoming with the existence of the governmental claims act. Additionally, holding the parents liable for the acts of the children is another hurdle (and unless these are rich kids, the lawyer probably would tend to avoid that hurdle). As to the coaches, my guess is that some type of gross negligence or willful misconduct would be necessary to be proven and the coaches are likely not wealthy either and may be in-fact 'judgment proof.'

BTW, this is not legal advice, just some perspective on the other side of the common beliefs of the simplicity of lawsuits and collection.

No excuse for this. They shouldn't be allowed to play sports again, and should be in jail for assault. The one that used his helmet should get aggravated assault.

update....http://espn.go.com/moresports/story/_/id/13609876/john-jay-high-school-players-allege-referee-field-incident-used-racial-slurs" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

SAN ANTONIO -- Officials with a San Antonio school district say two football players accused of ramming into a referee during a high school game allege the referee directed racial slurs at them.

"Mack Breed, a 29-year-old assistant coach at John Jay, was placed on administrative leave for allegedly telling the players that the referee "needs to pay for cheating us," the school district said in a statement Tuesday."

Put both of them in jail and throw away the key. Did anyone hear what type of injuries the ref sustained?

Shocking. Someone acts like a thug and then justifies it with the Race Card. What a joke.

Thank you for mentioning this...thugs, cretins, scumbags, they are.

They were interviewed on that morning show (ABC) with George S. Ya know the same show Robin Roberts is on. I saw it. That is a boring show!!

This is why pitchforks are not so great before an investigation as the coach has apparently admitted to ordering the hit. I am not surprised as it just didn't make any sense that those two would have took it upon themselves. Does this change anyone's opinions? Players are typically taught that coach is always right. My personal belief is that the players should be booted from the team and face school discipline but the coach should face criminal charges.

Does not change my opinion other than adding the coach to the list of prosecutions. Kids should be prosecuted. The coach should be fired and prosecuted. If I were principal, I'd investigate fully to determine the extent of this type of mentality within the program. If I had a whiff of this type of conduct resonating through the program, I'd cancel the season and fire all coaches.

On a separate note, a kid in TN did a similar thing and was determined to be accidental. Here is the story and video. I'm not sure on that conclusion after watching the video.
