He got a cool million to walk. I have to think that the new AD already has his guy with spring practice starting next week. Expect another sub 500 season from the fighting illini.

Never liked Lovie in the pros. Feels like a poor man's Jim Mora hire...at Illinois.

I think he'll be a better college coach than pro. He seems like a mentor-type of guy and I think that will resonate with college kids and their parents. He should be able to tap in to good recruiting pipelines in the mid-west. I'm not sure of his staff or southern connections, but he'll need someone on staff with inroads to the south.

Interesting hire and at least temporarily gave the program a shot in the arm in terms of excitement.

He won a Super Bowl in Chicago. Definitely a good hire for the Illini. He's going to get the local kids excited about the program, and there is a TON of D1 talent in that area. How his coaching translates to the college level will be interesting to watch, but I think the AD at Illinois nailed this hire.

WUT?
Took Chicago to the Super Bowl, not won it. My bad. (No one could win with Grossman as the QB) Still, he was a pretty good coach for the Bears for a long time. Kids in that area recognize the name.

He did have an 81-63 record in the NFL with the bears and 89-87 overall. Pretty good. It remains to be seen if he translate that back to college where he hasn't been in 20 years.

So...he averaged 9 wins 7 losses at Chicago...pretty decent.
