OT: Another attempt! Beer Drinkers Only! (Kind Of)

I'm curious why you all think the profits would be so low on a $6 beer?

Because I'm a pessimist and I'm sure the athletics department would find some way to screw up easy money. Also think of having to pay staff to serve beer.

I'm not entirely sure, but I think a good portion of concessions workers volunteer or get paid a ridiculously low amount. I can't remember if you have to be 21 to serve beer in Wyoming or not, but I think you do. So finding 21+yr old folks to work the concessions stands (probably going to demand some sort of compensation), cost of beer, CO2, and extra law enforcement (UW wouldn't allow more booze with the same security staffing, we all know this), maintenance of liquor licenses (would Laramie try and jump in and say each beer stand has to have its own liquor license? probably) and the profit margin starts to decrease. I pulled 30% out of my ass, but there's a lot more to looking into it other than Beer+Football=Profit.

That being said, I'd be 100% in support of beer being sold at the AA, and War Memorial. Hell sell it at the UniWyo Multipurpose gym and I might go to a volleyball game.

Damn right they are! I just picked up a couple of O'Dell Brazzle bottles and put them in the cellar for a few months to see how they age. I'm a big fan of Scotch ales, too. Titleist turned me on to Cold Smoke up there in Montana. One of the best beers I've ever had.

In all seriousness, I suspect that I just haven't given them a chance. It took me several years to finally enjoy IPAs, so I probably need to do the same with sours.

I prefer my beer to not be infected with bacteria. I learned from homebrewing that bacteria in brewing was a bad thing .Kidding(kinda). Different flavors for different people. But personally I can't drink sours or saisons or most belguims that use wild yeast. Just tastes like something went wrong in the brewing process(I know its intentional). We always joke if we see a farmhouse ale somewhere on tap that they must have f-ed up a batch and just called it a farmhouse and sold it anyway.

I like hops so if I'm watching a game I enjoy a good IPA or pale that is hoppy but not too hoppy that I can't drink plenty of them. So ussually Odell IPA or Sierra Nevada Pale also love Sweetgrass APA from Teton. In fall and winter I love a good stout. Lugene from Odell is awesome so is Shake from Boulder Brewing. Both taste like chocolate milk. If I am drinking cheap beer its mostly Miller lite or PBR.

+1000....LOVE Left Hand Milk Stout Nitro...if I'm at the bar having beers, this is my "dessert" beer that I enjoy while closing my tab and then heading to bed.

Addendum: for those of you that might enjoy mixing or layering beers, layer Milk Stout on top of Angry Orchard...damn good.

I would highly recommend the Bull & Bush in central Denver if you like good craft beer. Great atmosphere, great pub food and some really first rate beers. They've been brewing there since '98. Best of all you're supporting two brothers who are both Wyoming alumni. Note the Pokes helmet as you go in the door.

If you're downtown in Denver, Falling Rock has a huge selection of craft beers and their staff knows their stuff. It's definitely a beer bar, so if you want to try a lot of different things across a broad spectrum that place is great.

In the early Fall, when it's still warm, I like wheats and Belgian Whites- Hoegaarden's pretty much my go-to. In cooler weather I prefer IPA's, Stone Ruination is kick-ass, as is Deschutes "Fresh Squeezed" IPA. Night games with stormy weather, give me a Zonker Stout.

As far as revenue goes, beer sales would likely also boost food sales. People tend to eat more when they drink, and vice versa. Overall concession sales would probably rise by virtue of boosting attendance.

If I bought it at a store, probably Blue Moon or Sunshine Wheat. But I'm probably drinking a home brew.

I think your profit margin is a little high. I'd say it's probably in the neighborhood of 30%. But I also think your estimates of how much they'd sell is a little low. I remember one year at the MWC tourney selling out the Thomas & Mack! Maybe a little skewed for that event, but I still think it's closer to 50% that would be buying at least one beer at a game. Which makes the math work out about right.

The reason I chose 50% - primarily is that overhead is already paid for - for the most part. With the exception of product and labor, the rest will be paid for by the distributors or parent company...and the space / utilities / etc., are already paid - there is no rent, no power bill, etc.

Say they pour into 20 oz cups - they will get roughly 100 per 1/2 bbl. At $6 per, that is $600.00 - for a keg that costs them $130.00 ish. Add in a two person team for 5 hours at $10 per hour for labor of $100.00, and the margin of 50% looks conservative. There will be incidental costs, certainly, but not to the tune that would sway the margin much.

I just went there for the first time this weekend. They've got some AWESOME beers there! Great decor, too. I like the petrified wood tables and bar.
