Opening Night: Weber State

Later start than normal.....9 PM ET, 7 PM MT. How do you all feel about the first game against Weber State?

It was only two years ago that a true freshman QB named Austyn Carta-Samuels led the Pokes to a 29-22 victory over a solid WSU team.

With UW likely starting another Freshman QB this time around, including a shaky O-Line, this game might not be the 55-0 blowout some expect. What do you all think happens? WSU has taken a tumble since Cam Higgins was in his prime, so I'm going with a 30-16 victory for Wyoming.

ACS didn't really lead us to that win vs Weber...if I remember correctly both Benjamin and ACS shared QB duties and led the Cowboys on similar scoring drives.

I do remember Alexander getting a long TD on his first run! ...and I expect to see him in the endzone about 3 times this time around! I also expect both Pittser and Smith to both get reps in the game similar to the 2009 game. Final...34-10

I think UW takes care of business against Weber. We will see a lot of run plays in the first few drives, but Weber will stack the box, forcing a true freshman QB to beat them. Because of this, I don't think we have a very good day running the ball, but I have a good feeling Pittser is going to dismantle that Weber secondary.

I think Weber holds us to around 75-100 yards rushing, but I fully expect Pittser to throw for over 200 yards in this game. I hate to say it, but the run game will likely be a weakness of ours all season long. This will be a decently close game at halftime...something like 13-7, but the Pokes will pull away in the 2nd half behind a strong Pittser performance to win 27-10.

I know a lot of you disagree with me, but I think the FCS game to be more worried about is the Texas State game. That team has very good speed for an FCS team and if we let our guard down for one second, we will be in a dogfight.

The O-line may not be all that shakey this year, but they do have to prove that themselves. I doubt Weber State will have much success stacking the line against two dual threat QBs - Freshmen or not. In the first game, I expect the offensive plays to be fairly vanilla, but if we get a lead the new OC may open it up a little.

Another thing to keep an eye on in this game is how our D-line performs. Weber State has a very good offensive line for an FCS school. Add in the fact that they have a talented running back, and I suspect they will try and run it down our throats all game long. As far as O-lines we will face this season, Weber State's probably ranks somewhere around the middle of the pack believe it or not. Regardless of the fact that Weber is a FCS school, this will be a good measuring stick of the improvement our D-line has made right off the bat.

I can't lie, I see some serious bumps in the road for UW this year. It could very well be just as stressful as 2010 was. But I gotta say, for some reason I think @Wyoming is a trap game for TCU. They are loaded with young inexperienced talent. Talented? Oh yeah. But you have to think they're going to look ahead to the @Boise State game. The Pokes might not win, but that game could be closer than some "experts" will admit.

how do i feel about it? I am fricken excited! I love night games, home openers, etc. I plan on showing up early, getting primed and going in to watch the QBs warm up early. My son can't wait for the first Biezuns sack.

It can't get here soon enough.

Anyone that can go should, if not for the game then for the fireworks show afterwards. The one they had last year after the stadium's grand reopening was great!

I'll be there if my knee has completely recovered from knee surgery by then. But I do have season tickets, so it's all good.

I blew my knee a few times in college, never stopped me from going! I was in the pep band, so I had to crutch my way all the way down the stairs in the AA for half a season! Totally worth it, though.

Well, this knee surgery will have me confined at home for the first week, and in a splint and crutches for the next 4-5. And it is possible I may need surgery on my other knee too. And the surgery involves taking the tendon or muscle over my knee cap, tightening it, and then screwing it into my shinbone since currently, my knee cap is sitting on the outside edge of the socket.

The worst part is, it's my 4th knee surgery and I'll be 22 on the 8th. :tickedoff:

Ouch. Wasn't trying to call you out, by the way, just saying that I can (sort of) relate.
Yeah, I know. Just that having hyper-flexibility sucks. And no one bothered to tell me that I had it until this year (been the root cause of my knee issues since the 8th grade). :tickedoff:

wyo was a really fun road trip for wsu fans 2 yrs ago. wyo fans were very respectable and there was no nonsense. it was great weather too. i would gladly go back for the game in 2011. i especially loved the first down chant from your student section.

Ah, memories. When HCDC heard the chant that first game he wasn't impressed. He sent out a mass letter asking the student section to stop (which only made it louder), and when they didn't the announcer just quit saying "good for another Brown & Gold 1st down". He said it once last season during the first game, but we haven't heard it since.

I'm lost here. What did the student section chant?

So you are saying Weber wasn't a typical Wyo home game? hahah

the announcer would say, "thats another W-Y-O..." then the students section would yell "first down mother fu**er!!!"

with 20+ 1st downs it was pretty comical.

Can you believe its almost game week?

I'm sticking by my 30-16 prediction. I don't think this WSU team is as good as the one Wyoming played in 2009. There might be some kinks early, which is expected for an offense led by a true freshman QB, but Wyoming will comfortably prevail.

weber wont be as good as '09 is probab an accurate estimation. what about wyo? how does this yr compare to that yr? better/worse/?
