One of my favorite D players may change positions?

Gabe Knapton to DE? I understand it is in the works. Great move IMO. Lots of LB depth. (Tony, Studnicka, Hendricks, Knight, Biezuns, etc., etc., etc.)

This is an interesting move. I was very disappointed in the way Knapton played this last season. He has good initial contact but doesn't continue to drive with his legs. I can't even count the number of times he had RB's run through his tackles or at the very least they always fell a yard or 2 forward after making contact.

6'3 238.... could work out well.

We know he is fast and strong and can tackle. The d line could be much better than expected next year with the NMMI kids and Knapton on the line.

i would be interested to see what he could do rushing the passer and coming off the edge, he could be pretty disruptive in that role and put a little more speed on the field.

posting from dentist's chair. ugh.

Good move. I think the LB talent in the wings is pretty good. Look for Harris and Knight to make a move toward the starting line-up along with Muhammed next year.

Go Pokes!

I'm not so sure this is a good idea. Sure we may have some depth at LB, but is it worth moving your most productive LB to DE a position he hasn't played? I think we would be better off playing the JUCO guys inside and then the new walk-on turned scholly player and Purcell at DE.

I have a feeling with the number of DTs and DEs that we've recruited the last couple of seasons, we'll be rotating these positions heavily. If we're also going to some kind of a hybrid 4-3 where one guy will alternate between putting on pressure and dropping back, who better to do that than somebody who's spent time at LB? I'm sure they've got it all figured out.

i would assume the staff would use the same evaluation process they do on recruits and they feel he has the skills to play DE. if they evaluate it and think it will make the team better then they gotta do it. It may be a blessing for Gabe as well, showing his versatility to NFL scouts. i trust whatever they do will be best for the team and Gabe may benefit as well. whatever they do , he is a tackle machine, i dont
see him standing on the sidelines. maybe they try it in spring ball and see how it goes. like i said before i would like to see more speed in our pass rush.

Jerry Hughes was converted from RB to DE for TCU. He is 6'3 257. Knapton is already 6'3 238 so just needs to adds some muscle. Hope he gets a shot in spring ball and see if it works out.
