One last thought on Linder…

He’s a wimp who waived the white flag.

I hope Sunny shows him for the nutless lazy POS I think he is.

He did the unthinkable and quit on his kids. Forget the U and the fans. He quit on his kids and tried to gut them on the way out. He reminds me of a kindergartner that doesn’t get their way. He pouts, cries and hides.

I’m sorry he lost his dad. It truly affected his ability to perform despite our best efforts to give him space and time to recover. At the end of it all, he is, at best, an assistant coach for a mid-tier Power Conference team and in no way a leader of men. I’m glad he’s gone.

That’s all.

Time for some GD Juice!

He recruited and signed a transfer kid the day before he left. Would have loved to hear the BS he was spewing to that kid (who has now since signed with Nevada).

I really wish we knew the entire story in regard to Linder’s exit from UW. I get the feeling some animosity developed between Linder and Burman during the offseason.

I don’t think Linder felt he was getting enough support at UW, either from the administration or the fans. Whether that is accurate or not, I think that was Linder’s perception of things and he was looking for a way out of UW. I would not be surprised if Linder began putting feelers out for another job, Burman caught wind of it, and told him he should just go ahead and leave.

If Linder truly blindsided UW and Burman with an exit in May without any prior communication, there is really no excuse for that. Linder may have been an asshole, a poor recruiter, and even a bad coach, but I still find it hard to wrap my head around him doing that. I never ever would have pegged him as a quitter.

I have the opposite view. I did peg Linder as a quitter long before he left. I’ve never seen a coach publicly point fingers and take less personal responsibility than Linder did. In my experience, that’s typically a hallmark trait of quitter.

My best guess is that Linder had packed it in well before the transfer portal season and that he was just going through the motions, barely. Then when it became known to Burman that Linder was actively trying to leave that Burman probably had a sense of relief and probably basically told Linder he won’t be missed. BTW and perhaps you allude to this, there was a report from an obscure source on Twitter weeks before that Linder was looking around for job opportunities.

Eh; lots of people find something else while they’re still employed if they’re on the verge of being fired. I had no hopes for this season had Linder stayed. He got off the titanic with the women and children.

To use your metaphor - not only did he get off the titanic but, because of his timing, he attempted to sink all of the life boats too on his way out.

Found this article from the local Lubbock newspaper. Makes it sound like Linder was very displeased with the NIL resources at UW and didn't feel he could compete without those resources.

I'm not saying his assessment was wrong, but I'm not aware of Linder making any attempts to remedy the problem. Sounds like he just expected the university and boosters/fans to step up, and when they didn't, he was ready to leave town.

Reminds me of the old saying, "I've tried nothing, and I'm all out of ideas".

I cannot agree more with this post. He whined constantly about the lack of NIL, but any time the CJC or the univeristy held a fund raising event he sat in the corner and pouted instead of engaging the people who would be potential donors.

Wicks is exactly the opposite in this regard. He's just as aware of the NIL challenges as Linder was. The difference with Wicks will be we'll see him out shaking hands and kissing babies. People are a hell of a lot more likely to donate to a coach they like than one that seems disdainful towards them.

I think that's pretty mean spirited. Let's see how you hold up when your father dies.

Interesting thoughts on this topic from Tom Burman, if you listened to Ryan Thorburn's latest podcast.

Like or not the lack of NIL money is problem going forward not only for Wyoming basketball but the entire athletic department at UW . I loathe the portal and NIL. Not too fond of the proposed NCAA deal either. Until the dust settles UW athletics will be unstable and likely less successful.

I've lost quite a few folks that are close to me. I grieved. But I also knew that I had to keep working and moving. Time stands still for no person. UW treated him more than fairly - letting him sit out the MW tourney and allowing him other time to be with his father prior to his passing. I support what they did. I understand grief and am sorry for his loss. But you can't put last year and his crummy demeanor towards UW, the fanbase and his team all of last year on his having lost his dad. At the end of it all, he is not a leader and I am glad he isn't here anymore.

Cliff Notes Por Favor?

Agree. I can’t get it to play but the other ones seem to play.

Basically Linder was transparent with Burman throughout the process, they kinda saw the writing on the wall when the new coach was hired at TTU, Sundance had a lot of guilt about leaving UWGB since they'd been good to him, Linder hated NIL, Sundance will be out stumping for money and student engagement. Was an interesting listen.

I thought this take on Linder was quite the “knee slapper”……….

He's an awesome guy more than anything and I really think he'll help us basketball wise, but his character and who he is as a person is the biggest add to our program."

My assessment. Linders a putz!

I know I'm tardy to the party, but something stood out to me in this... Around the 11 minute mark, Burman talked about going to classes and talking to students. Wednesday nights have been a huge campus activities night for years. The fact that Burman didn't know this is terrible and tells me he is out of touch.

Send the AD and Coaches to Half Acre at 5:00pm on a week day and talk to the club sports and and intramural athletes, and the people playing pick up hoops. you'll learn a lot about what these students are actually doing. Shame.
