The reason I listed those P5 schools is because they have zero tradition or history of success. Kansas had two years of good football in their history. They also have to get beat down by their counterparts in those P5 conferences every single year.

FAU and FIU get talent buts it's the kids that couldn't get into the other Florida schools because of academics or legal issues. They rarely last there.

Utah State only got easier in the last 3-4 years. That place might have been the hardest gig in the country before Gary Andersen. They had zero fan support, were in the WAC, and played second fiddle to Utah and BYU.

My theory is this... If Utah State can win like they have, Wyoming can too. They have half the fan support and are the third tier in their state.
All good points. This is such a subjective topic too......what does easier to win really mean? Win total? Sustained success? Louisiana Tech won 11 games a few years back....but can't sustain it whatsoever. Success every blue moon type of deal. Utah State has done well finding the under recruited Utah kids the Utes and Cougars pass over. WITH THAT SAID......recruiting has tailed off for them since Gary Andersen left. A TON of starters graduated after 2013. Keeton will be done after 2014. The Aggies have had some success....but starting in 2015 we'll know if its legit success, or a brief era that will come to pass. You can only go to the diamond in the rough well so many times before you're just digging up horse shit.

Your flat out wrong on that. We are competing for kids and getting commitments on kids we never used to offer and for the first time are even occasionally beating BYU and Utah. The Poly pipeline is getting better every year for us. Wells seems to have it. Unfortunately we may not have him for long. A lot of the guys we put in the NFL over the past several years had no other D-1 offers. I love our current pipeline that includes:

1. A high percentage of Polynesians
2. A tremendously successful Preferred walkon Program for Utah Kids..ie Jake Doughty, Zach Vigil, 2 members of our OL last year, and our projected 4th linebacker this year who may start on a team with 3 other likelt First team all Wac LB
3. A good percentage of Utah Mission kids who can grayshirt, serve two years, and hit the weights and speed training for a year.
4. Very smart and selective recruiting of mostly skill guys from Florida and Texas with speed being a top priority.
5. JC kids with a focus on Polys who didn't initially qualify.
6. A focus on Defense that the MWC as a whole seems to lack.

Gary Andersen and our AD put that specific plan together when he came and they've executed it with Matt Wells seamlessly taking the baton.

I have followed the Aggies through hapless season after hapless season when we played kids who had no D-1 offers and few FCS offers. In particular our lines got dominated on both sides of the ball and we our strength and speed programs sucked. The culture has changed, our facilities have been significantly upgraded, and people are excited to play for us. That may change when Wells and more importantly our AD move on but expect us to maintain the 2 to 3 Draftees we are putting out a year until then. I think we had about 12 other guys sign F/A contracts or get invited to mini-camp this spring with Larsen and Doughty having real shots.

Bohl will bring the same fire to Wyoming and I expect he will achieve his own recruiting plan that will take advantage of the unique location exc. Think about it. You had two good draft picks this year and you appear to be starting way ahead of where Utah State did. I am excited to see a raw Wyoming team next year that plays more physical and with more passion and confidence. You guys will be pushing for the MWC title game with us and Boise within two years.

I live out here now and am excited to see it. Love the coaching pick and I am excited about my second favorite team beating Boise soon.

By the way.. Utah State is our oldest rival and leads the series pretty handily if I remember correctly.
If you go back to the beginning of time, then you'd be correct. As with most teams who have the series lead against us (CSU), most of that was done prior to the 1950's. Since then we have a nice lead against the Aggies and the Rams.

There's no way it's the toughest place to be successful at. We had success from 1987-1998. Since that era, we've played in 3 bowl games too.

You can win 6-8 games every year at Wyoming and be a legend. If Joe Glenn had won 6-7 games every other season he would have a 10 year contract today.

Even DC won't find another HC job with 7 wins being a home run. He can ask his friends Whittingham and Pinkel what expectations feel like.

Oh wow 3 bowls in 15 years, great.
That is an average of one every 5 years. And our most recent coach was our most successful in a while, getting 2 of those bowl games and narrowly missing out on a couple more.
Or you can say 2 in the past 5 years. We had a bad stretch with Vic and Joe (who did well against the BCS schools, but not so well against the MWC) and bowls were much more limited until after 2000.

That being said, I expect CCB to improve on this unfortunate stat considerably.

Go Pokes!!

Here is what I suggest will assist us greatly....

1. Athletic dorm....I know you can't have solely athletic ones but look how kentucky bball...SEC football does it by allowing reg students stay as well. Hell...put it where the old field-house is now?

2. Training table........needed a long time ago----full nutrition staff.

3. Sell...beer.....screw it.

4. Put freaking Nike signs on the stadium or similar for $$$$...name the stadium-unless that is disrespectful-etc

5, and possibly give me bags of cash to "persuade" recruits.......jk...sorta

I would disagree I would say it is absolutely the toughest place for a coach to be successful.

Right now maybe. But is sure doesn't have to be that way. And it wasn't that was in the late 80's and 90's.

Being successful in an Era where money was a much lower factor to winning in College Athletics than it is today doesn't mean anything.

Those 5 things are things all big time schools have.

We need new dorms in general. For all students.
Welcome our students to the 21st century maybe?

Bingo....yet so few acknowledge this. $$$ is the name of the game today. If you don't invest, success will be brief at best.

And to go further with your point J-Rod, the way success is defined in todays world, is a winning season, or a bowl game.

Meaning, "success" is not sucking.

So, if you don't invest, not sucking will be brief at best.

I mean in all honesty no ones knows how much or how little UW have for these things. We know what is made public but none of that tells us shit. For all we know the AD gets a bonus for not spending over X amount so he just doesn't spend over X.

I for one would love to know what the budget available is vs what is paid out, I'm willing to bet they are quite different.
