Now you had your blow out victory. And it was done in a game that we didn't play very well in. What's your excuse now?

I will say the defense came through in a BIG way in the second half, but we could still use a big guy in the middle there. Our starting d-line is full of DE sized guys.

I saw what i wanted to see today, Our D stepped it up and got Turnovers and pressure the Offense oh man Our O has got me excited i cant wait to see how we do against Bowling Green and the rest, We could go to a Bowl if we play like we did today but untill we enter Confrence play i dont wanna make any picks.

Both Durbin and Purcell should have plenty of size next season. Purcell might get close to 300 if he keeps adding weight. If not, 286 isn't all that small anyway.

But they're not starters.

And Kurt Tatasfua'ua (SP) is at 280. Gabe Knapton my be listed as a starter at DT but he spent more time at DE the last two games (Durbin played DT more). Korey Jones plays as a speed rush/LB when we go into multiple D-sets. Kurt T., Durbin, and Purcell are all decent weights for DT ( would like them to be at 300lb, but that will have to be next year).

Purcell is a starter ( a two year starter at that).

I cant remember the last time we had 2 guys over 100 yards rushing and most close behind in one game :thumb:

I like the fact that this team took advantage of its opportunities and shut them down in the 2nd half. That being said, I think the stats reflected more so on Texas St. inability to execute rather than our defense suffocating them. Dropped passes, poor throws, etc. These were things that good teams will not do later on this year. The defense still has a lot of work ahead of itself because they are leaving some big openings out there.

Bowling Green will be the perfect test for this team.

I think the fact that Wyoming took away the run from a running team that had 250+ yards on the ground last week against Tech hurt Texas St. When you're not a passing team and you're forced to pass the ball good things usually aren't going to happen for you, ie dropped passes and bad throws.

I'm with Calpoke on this one. When we play our first FBS team we'll know where the team stands. At the end of last season, when AA started taking over, is when our offense started coming together. Our overall offensive numbers didn't look good for the season, but the last 4 games we averaged over 30 a game and over 400 yards, all against FBS opponents. Those 4 combined with these first 2 games is something like 35 points and 450 yards a game for the past 6 games (half a season). Those numbers can take you pretty far.

Many players had good games, but I was most impressed with Smith. He didn't have a perfect game by any means but he seems to have everything you want from your QB, leadership, vision, toughness, ability...

I saw Sonny Puletasi making plays a few times. I seen him manhandle a blocker fight off a holding and totally threw the QB down like he was a kid. I like him quite a bit.

This is what we should have done last week. I'm happy that we got it to work this week.

On a related note Utah State dropped the hammer on Weber 54 - 17. So, I have some doubts still.

First off, Texas State had less than 200 yard total offense. And, I think we held them to less than 2.5 yards a carry. The improvement between this week and last week was huge. Our defense line is big enough and will get a boost with Mertens next year. But, they shut Texas State's running game down and kudos to them.

Go Pokes!!

I'm a little worried that Utah State might be pretty damn good. On another note, Texas state ran for 250 yards against Tech and we held them nicely. Teams match up different to each other and we never know until it happens.

+1, I thought Sonny played like a beast.

I also agree with others that the O line played well, which led to all the other success. The offense had a pretty balanced attack with lots of guys contributing.

The defense did play much better, but also agree with some posters that teams like TCU and BSU will capitalize on some of the open guys in the passing game. It was nice to shut down a their running game after a shaky start. I really look forward to BG game. Go Pokes.

BGSU looks to be just as explosive as the Pokes. Key will be how the defense does, and the offense's execution as well, but mainly defense.

Yep. Mistakes. Whoever makes the fewest wins IMO.

I'm not sure how many ties Brandon still has with BGSU, but that might help a little.

Their only offensive weapon in WR Eugene Cooper. 5-9 tall. I think if we put Gipson and Nzeocha on him and double him up, they will struggle moving the ball. Just like we did against Eric Page at Toledo last year. When we stopped him, they could hardly do anything. Beside I don't think any other WR will beat us. There second go to guy has has only 8 catches for 74 yards and 1 td.
