I don't think they will pay the new coach as much as DC is getting. They weren't happy having to pay DC the 1.2 million in the first place. Welcome to mediocrity paradise island.

I don't think they will pay Christensen anywhere close to 1.2 million this year. $180k the base salary - I bet he will end up with about $500k after incentives - but you can't lose this many games, ticket sales are down, etc.

Unfortunately for local high school coaches that dream of leading Wyoming at War Memorial, college football is all about recruiting talent. They don't have ties to the big recruiting areas. It would not surprise me if there were some coaches out there in high school football in Wyo that are better X's and O's guys than DC, better motivators, and would know what to do with current talent better than DC, but the fact is they wouldn't be getting ANY quality recruits. No Brett Smith's, no Shaun Wicks, no Rufrans, no Herrons.
Then again, it's not like we are getting many elite talents anyways. We constantly get a bunch of of kids who only come to Wyo because that is their only D1 offer so maybe it COULD work.
But, the hard part would be finding those kids in the first place.
Finding the Brett Smiths and Wicks. They need recruiting ties SOMEWHERE.

I just do not want to see us get another hot shot OC or DC that ends up being a marginal HC at best. If we have to take a step back lets at least look at all options and see what we can find. Who knows we may just get lucky and find that diamond in the rough.
