How is bankrupting the ncaa better financially for the 300?

It’s a fresh start. The 300 can form or become part of their own associations and create their own tournaments. The split will happen regardless. This is just a way to speed up that process and get back to relatively amateur athletics.

Only problem is there will be no or very little revenue from tv or whatever the new ncaa would be. P5 is responsible for the majority of the liability but also the revenue.

The advantage (or disadvantage) would be personal preference but not financial.

The NCAA does not currently market the MWC’s media rights (other than the football playoff, NCAA basketball tournament and similar tournaments). I don’t see how that valuation really changes with or without the NCAA affiliation. Theoretically, the only loss would be basically tournament credits which could arguably be replaced with the G5s own championships.

At this point it is nothing more than speculation. However, being tied in with playoffs and bowls helps boost conference negotiations. Without that, I don't think there's enough market power to drive contracts much above fcs levels. Same goes for bball. If ncaa tourney goes away, I think everyone loses including the p5. The ncaa tourney is kind of like the Kentucky Derby. A lot of people watch just that for the event but really don't pay attention to horse racing other than that event.

For football, I think p4 or p2 will consume almost all revenue.
