OBNOXIOUS Game Day Music

Not related to the crappy game day music.....but the timing of the first Beer Song was bad too. North Dakota just scored their first TD and the band started playing the Beer Song. It was almost as if the fans were excited for the North Dakota TD. DUMB!!!

I've never really cared one way or another what music they have played at WMS, but I have always found it annoying that they have the speakers cranked so loud that they sound like they are going to blow and you can't hear anything.

When it comes to audio systems, its all about the quality, not the quantity. Turn the thing down to the point it sounds good. Let people talk. The only time you shouldn't be able to think because of noise is when the crowd is on fire.

The last few Bronco's games I was at, the music, whether I liked it or not, flowed with the game. I could think.

And someone pointed out the video's they put on the big screen from the movies - hopefully trying to get the crowd fired up. I always thought these were a bit cheesy. Why don't they go dig up some clips of great moments throughout Cowboy Football history and play them? Instead of the Steve Carrell "Blah blah blah" clip (which I have no idea what movie it is from), go get one of the Devin Moore 90+ yard kickoff return. Or the blocked Texas punt, etc, etc.

I let Burman know my disappointment with a couple things regarding the dungeon that is the bottom west side and the music volume and selection. I'm 31 so I'm no crotchety old geezer but top 40 hits from the late 90's seemed like an odd selection and the distortion form the speakers was awful. Here is Burmans response.

Steve

I agree and will work to improve the music immediately. I have been pushing the University/Trustees to support upgrades to the lower west side with Major Maintenance money but have yet to win the battle - I will keep fighting.

Can they please let the game breathe a little bit on its own from play to play without non-stop music after each play sequence?

My point in the original post was to say that I felt like I was suffocated last Saturday by a non-stop noise fest with not a break from the loudspeakers until the final whistle.

Allow the natural sounds of the game, the crowd, the band, to be heard, without resorting to manufactured noise elements all day long. I know we live in a society where attention spans are that of a gnat...but last Saturday the environment at The War changed for the worse like I have never witnessed previously.

Also someone else mentioned great moments in Wyoming football history - and how these should be played on the video board during stoppages. It's a great idea and it should be implemented immediately.

I'd be fighting to turn it down so the music isn't distorted until that battle is won. Geez - play noise that sounds like the speakers are exploding or turn it down a bit so it sounds good? Nah - we will play it loud and make the fans suffer until we get a shiny new toy.

I keep forgetting to ask - do they actually test the ref's microphone before the game? Or do they just say "here mr ref, we think it works - good luck." Then they hustle to replace/fix it when they figure out it doesn't work?

I'll give them a pass if they actually test it prior to the game. As employees, you can only work with the equipment you have, and it can be expensive to upgrade it. If they aren't testing/tweaking it prior to kickoff, that's a management failure and makes us look like a bunch of jackasses.

Oh man did I call that one lol! I can't predict scores for shit but I knew what type of music would be played.

Take away the student section and I'll take an educated guess that with the amount of music played -- a good 90% of the crowd at the game does not identify with it, nor do they like it. It's not our culture. Hip-hop every now and then? No problem...but no matter what music they play too much is an assault on the senses that leaves you feeling bewildered by the end of the game. Factor in how the game went and...

The jumbo rotunda who has sat behind us for the last two seasons - holdin' a baby with a husband and third seat for a non-stop toddler who spilled his sippy cup on my back last Sat. - has to sing along to every song. And that makes the music even worse.

When I was at UW, I know they tested the mics prior to gametime everyday. Granted this was several years ago, but at that time it fell under Mad Dog's domain, so if it still does, I'm sure he tests them.

While I like that he responds. His generic canned responses are kind of pointless.

They played Too Legit to Quit for hell's sake. Awful. Just awful. And the new DJ was touted as a game day upgrade.

I wonder what the cause of the outages on the microphone is. There is always a solution - you just have to dig deep enough. I bet we have been having microphone problems since 2008+. The tough part is - it works most of the game, its always the first few calls - up to the first few minutes of the game - that the microphone fails. This makes me think its human error more than technical error. It could go many ways.
