We can't lose Brett in this game. Need him for the showdown with the Fly boys next week!

I don't think we are going to see Smith next week against Air Force based on what I've heard from Dave and Kevin. If his ankle is giving him this much trouble in the acute stage, he is going to be in a world of hurt by this evening/tomorrow morning. Unfortunately, ankle injuries are not injuries that heal quickly. I think we are going to be lucky to see Smith back by the Texas State game.

What will be interesting is if Smith can't go against Air Force, do we burn Thompson's redshirt or try to get away with playing Thornton for the game?

Ankle injuries are weird, though. I've had sprains that didn't hurt bad, but I couldn't run for 8 weeks, and I've had ones that hurt so bad I wanted my foot cut off, and then I was good to go within a few days - though with a brace.

If Brett can't go, no-brainer to take Thompsons redshirt.

I guess never underestimate how tough and how much of a competitor Brett is. Along with the medical treatments available, I wouldn't be shocked to see Brett next week against AFA. I guess only time will tell though.

You are way to premature with this assessment. It might be as bad as you think, but it might be totally fine if he gets off of it for a day or two.

Don't even worry about burning Thompsons RS yet.

If Brett's ankle is that bad, why is he still playing.....and RUNNING? He should be fine.

It would be nice if Wick can do the majority of the work for Wyo today, and build a huge lead so Smith doesn't even need to play the last 20 minutes of the game.

You may be right. Just speculation based on the hundreds of ankle sprains I've seen. In the vast majority of cases, ankle injuries are worst 2-3 days following the injury...even with constant medical attention. Once the cortisone levels start to decline and Brett quits moving around, I'd expect some significant swelling and soreness to set in. Don't be surprised if Brett is in a brace and on crutches come tomorrow morning. Heck, I'm curious to see if he will be able to go after the halftime break.

Of course, I am basing my assessment entirely off of what Dave and Kevin have said. Hopefully, you are right and Brett is back to 100% come next weekend.

I didn't mean to say you were wrong, just a little too early in assuming.
But yeah after halftime could tell us a lot.

Just curious, what ever happened to the wide receiver that was pretty highly touted recruit from Washington state? I think his name was Sewell. I think he was a freshman last year and red-shirted last season.

Someone said he got hurt or sick and has been trying to get back to full health.
Next season he should be a factor.
