I don't think we are going to see Smith next week against Air Force based on what I've heard from Dave and Kevin. If his ankle is giving him this much trouble in the acute stage, he is going to be in a world of hurt by this evening/tomorrow morning. Unfortunately, ankle injuries are not injuries that heal quickly. I think we are going to be lucky to see Smith back by the Texas State game.
What will be interesting is if Smith can't go against Air Force, do we burn Thompson's redshirt or try to get away with playing Thornton for the game?

Don't even worry about burning Thompsons RS yet.

You may be right. Just speculation based on the hundreds of ankle sprains I've seen. In the vast majority of cases, ankle injuries are worst 2-3 days following the injury...even with constant medical attention. Once the cortisone levels start to decline and Brett quits moving around, I'd expect some significant swelling and soreness to set in. Don't be surprised if Brett is in a brace and on crutches come tomorrow morning. Heck, I'm curious to see if he will be able to go after the halftime break.
Of course, I am basing my assessment entirely off of what Dave and Kevin have said. Hopefully, you are right and Brett is back to 100% come next weekend.
