News that Sawful.....

I would eat an all-you-can-eat buffet of crow but nothing is probably going to change. Give him a chance to fix the offense like he fixed the defense blah blah the buyout blah blah.

It is the "Wait till Next Year" plan. Wyoming has been on this plan for over 35 years now. It is the only plan that Tom Burman does well.

Sawvel is in way over his head. Expect the portal losses to be significant.
Sawvel has plenty of things that he is bad at, but he seems to relate to players very well.

I thought we would see a lot of transfer after last year, but we really didn’t. Some of that may just be that we just don’t have a lot of talented players, especially on the offensive side of the ball, so the interest from other teams is probably limited. That said, the players seem to genuinely like Sawvel, and I think that helped him retain some players that he otherwise might have lost.

If he is fired, which I doubt will happen, then we would likely see a huge amount of transfers. I’m not so sure that would be such a bad thing.

What decent player would want to play here under the direction of this incompetent coaching staff? Bottom feeders until major changes are made from the top down.

A poster on another forum, who really does have inside information says Sawful is NOT well-liked or thought of by players. I honestly don't know but think this poster is probably right. If Sawful is fired and some players leave, I'm ok with that too.

I’m actually not expecting them to be significant because how many of these guys could land a spot on another FBS squad given the year and productivity we had?

I’m thinking of guys with eligibility left and who MIGHT be in demand
in the FBS and I’m not coming up with a huge list:

Chris Durr
Tote Harris
Deion DeBlanc
Bart Edmiston
Jones Thomas
Tyrese Boss

Note - Edmiston is the only guy I would rank as elite. Seems he could go anywhere he wants but where else will he get as many opportunities to punt?

We have some great young players, and it would be ideal to retain all of them. But New Mexico had 75 new players this year. We made this move partially to keep players, and it's failing those players. So that doesn't really matter, I'm sorry.

When you bust your butt and do as told, you witness in practice who executes better and then you see decisions during the game it can influence your perspective when those decisions are bad and the guys playing don’t perform well.

I’ve played enough sports to see guys playing who are liabilities but somehow they are the “chosen” at that position. It doesn’t make me feel respectful towards the manager.

There may be a loyalty issue. At the same time you might feel you are on track to see playing time and everything is a-ok when you find out your position was heavily recruited.

Right now there is an obvious issue especially with the offense and just because you are currently on the roster doesn’t mean you won’t be pushed out. Sawful is likely to be in a self-preservation mode and all this “keep the roster intact” might very well be off the table this year for portions of the roster.

I don’t think there is a lot of talent that will leave, but I can see a number of players that may leave even if it is to another struggling team just because they can and they don’t like being a loser in Laramie. Some may end up nowhere which maybe reflects their abilities.

All we can do is wait and see what happens next between coaches and the roster.

So we are worried about keeping players that can’t score or win games? Why?

Vic was retained at least one year too long. So was DC. So was Edwards. So was Napoleon. We all know what’s going to happen next year.

Allegedly Burman (and @Bryoming was in full support), hired PBJ to prevent transfers and the program tanked. 1) we now know Burman and @Bryoming were full of shit. I guess it was all about Junior but that's a different debate. 2) we don't have good enough players to worry about who transfers.

The portal is irrelevant. We're the bottom of fbs and won't get better due to people who we won't change.

WYO is where coaching careers go to die. We aren't luring anyone good without a complete overhaul and large commitment from the University.

Don't expect change without change at more than just the coaching positions.
