New OC should be announced soon

The rumor is Grant called plays in Tucson and it was his chance to prove himself and be considered for OC.

Hearing this guy is being considered:

Waylee is on the fence about entering the portal, and they hire would help keep him here.

Also, another rumor going around at the game is two big time D starters are going to announce their return. It’s not Shae since he announced. So maybe Gibbs and ?

Why would bringing in the guy he used to play for and TRANSFERRED AWAY FROM help keep him here? I'm confused by this.

If my roommate invited my ex girlfriend to come live with us, I'm out! lol

Maybe he transferred for other reasons...I don't know. In any event, we should not hire an OC for the sole purpose of keeping a player with a single year of eligibility in the fold.

Given how bad the play calling was at times I would tend towards believing that rumor 😂

The play calling was bad for the majority of the game. If It was Grant's audition, he failed. I really hope we get someone from outside the program to take over the offense.

Grant and Tripodi need to kick rocks. The WR and OL were not good - as in, not good all year. Special Teams needs an upgrade too. Make it so, Saw.

The entire offense needs to be torn down and rebuilt by someone outside the program currently. We can't go through another season of this!!!

I would take this FB post from Waylee as promising.

Well rumors are apparently just that. Gibbs officially declared for the draft. I’m not sure who else it could be.

Dang. Thought he might come back. I suppose he still could come back.

That would be a MONSTER get. Dude has been very good at coaching balanced offenses. Some players he has mentored:

Leviska Shenault - 2019 - 56 catches, 764 yds, 5 TDs
Keneth Walker III - 2021 - 1,636 rushing yards, 6.2 YPC, 18 TDs
Payton Thorne - 2021-2022 - 5,919 yards, 61.5% completion percentage, 46 TDs, 21 INTs

Michigan State's offense averages the 4 years he was there:
2020 - 238.9 passing yards per game, 91.4 rushing yards per game, 18 points per game
2021 - 253.7 passing yards, 175.6 rushing yards, 31.8 points
2022 - 240 passing yards, 113 rushing yards, 24.4 points
2023 - Not sure if he was there all season, but 199.8 passing yards, 89.5 rushing yards, 15.9 points

His point production was absolutely putrid though:

2023 - 131st in the nation
2022 - 91st
2021 - much better at 39th
2020 - 116th

First glance seems like a lousy hire.

Meatchicken State fans on X are extending condolences to us. That can't be good.

This seems strange and out of nowhere. Will be interesting how the offensive staff fills out.

He was the OC at Minnesota when Sawvel was the DC. Hire makes a lot of sense. I don't expect wholesale changes to the offense, but being competent at the forward pass would be refreshing to see.

Also Total Offense #s:

2023 - 128th in the nation at a whopping 289 yds/gm
2022 - 97th / 353 yds/gm
2021 - 43rd / 429 yds/gm
2020 - 109th / 330 yds/gm

Call me a pessimist, but this looks like shit to me.

Ok, that’s the connection. He certainly has a lot of experience.

The Spartans were a dumpster fire this year. They're jaded. Johnson did a hell of a job under Mark Hudspeth at Louisiana.
