Don't love it, but also don't disagree! https://nevadasportsnet.com/news/re...nts-from-best-to-worst-in-the-new-look-league
Emphasis mine:
8. Wyoming: The Cowboys have the fewest MW titles (five) since the league's current membership formed in 2013-14. The second fewest in that period is Nevada's 12. Wyoming's last MW title came in April 2023 when it claimed the women's tennis regular-season championship. It has gone three straight seasons without a MW crown. There's no reason Wyoming should be this far behind the pack. As the only Division I department in the state, it gets solid support and has good-enough facilities. It's not the easiest place to recruit to, but the Cowboys failed to finish in the top seven in the MW in football; men's basketball; women's basketball; women's soccer; women's tennis; and women's indoor and outdoor track and field last year.

The part about recruiting jumps out to me.

Something changed in recruiting in my lifetime....Laramie was never some great destination but recruiting has fallen off a cliff in basketball and football since the '90s. That is a time period that spans more than a few coaches so I think it's upstream of the person doing the recruiting. And now, with the professionalization of Mbb and football it's even worse.
